After posting a series low in the ratings last night, ABC has decided against ordering additional episodes of Dirty Sexy Money. Does that mean it’s cancelled?
Dirty Sexy Money follows nice-guy lawyer Nick George (Peter Krause) who takes over his late father’s only client, the wealthy and powerful Darling family. Tripp Darling (Donald Sutherland) is incredibly influential but is living proof that money isn’t everything. His relationships with his wife Letitia (Jill Clayburgh) and their five grown children is sometimes shaky at best. His adult children are politician Patrick (William Baldwin), promiscuous Karen (Natalie Zea), corrupt clergyman Brian (Glenn Fitzgerald), and immature, party-loving twins Jeremy (Seth Gabel) and Juliet (Samaire Armstrong). Other characters are played by Blair Underwood, Zoe McLellan, Lucy Liu, Will Shadley, Laura Margolis, Bellamy Young, Candis Cayne, Shawn Michael Patrick, Chloe Moretz, Sheryl Lee, Andrea Smithson, and Daniel Cosgrove.
Money debuted in September 2007 on ABC. The premiere episode attracted 10.44 million people and a 3.6/12 rating /share of the 18-49 demographic. The following episodes dropped considerably in the ratings but ABC decided to take a chance and renewed Money for a second season.

Since its return on October 1st, the ratings haven’t gotten any better. Last night’s viewership represented a series low. As a result, ABC has decided against ordering any additional episodes for the season, effectively cancelling the show. There’s a slight chance that Money could return in the future but, with its ratings history, that’s not likely to happen.
The cast and crew are currently finishing up shooting the final episode. It’s not known if it will include any kind of closure for the show’s ongoing storylines.
For now, Money remains on the ABC schedule. If the network pulls it before airing all of the episodes, they’ll likely be released online or, at the very least, be issued on DVD. Stay tuned!
Dirty Sexy Money is another great show that is just having a second-year slump, just like Desperate Housewives and many other shows that went on to “find their footing” creatively and rebound in the ratings. I think the problem this season is that there has been so much focus on inserting guest stars like Blair Underwood and Lucy Liu into the cast that the core characters were short-changed and the central storyline about the murder of Nick George seems to have been dropped without resolution along with Jill Clayburg’s storyline. Why not try scheduling it after Desperate Housewives? I am… Read more »
the problem with the show is thats its too late!!! otherwise its amazing. ABC thats a huge mistake!!!!
i don’t want this series to end!!!! i love the darllngs!!!
no!!! this is all kinds of wrong!!! just when something as fresh and original as DSM comes out ABC has to cancel the series!!! i really hope they bring DSM back in the future. it has so much potential!!! give it a chance!!! let’s all do a petition!!!
This is nuts. I had a hard time getting back into any shows after the strike but just started to get back in the flow with DSM. (And lost interest in many other shows I watched prior)
They will not have another show with the cast and story that this one had. I think ABC missed a big opportunity to allow this show to build its audience.
i am deeply concerned about the future of ABC channel. ABC will never be the same to me without my favourite show: Dirty Sexy Money.
This show is :
a) Dirty
b) Sexy
and above all
c) $$$$$$
Love it so much.
It is so me.
I like Sutherland’s role best. Good show!
DSM is the best show on ABC – must see TV for a change. I can see them canceling any of the other new shows, but not this one, as it has such a massive fan base and unlimited ways to grow. I would be fine as well with moving it to another time/day. Outright cancellation is not even imaginable for this one. Please save it, we have enough depressing crime and medical dramas (CBS), and ABC was a place to enjoy entertainment. You have “Desperate Housewives”, “Samantha Who”, “Ugly Betty” – and now sadly you are taking this away… Read more »
Oh my God! Please, please, PLEASE NO!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! ABC is lucky, LUCKY I was still planning on even watching ABC after cancelling Boston Legal, which is the best show EVER made. But now this!?!? Are you kidding me? Eli Stone? AND Dirty Sexy Money? These shows (and Boston Legal) are MY shows. These are the three shows that I watch, and live for! each week. I never thought it possible after all these years as a (mostly) CBS viewer that I’d end up watching ABC exclusively all week long. What am I going to do now?! I die everytime there… Read more »
I AM COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED IN TV LATELY. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY YEAR THEY ARE CANCELING GOOD SHOWS FOR REALITY TV OR NEWER SHOWS WITH BAD STORY LINES. BIG SHOTS WAS A GOOD SHOW – AXED, MY OWN WORSE ENEMY, LIPSTICK JUNGLE, AND NOW DIRTY SEXY MONEY. I MIGHT AS WELL WATCH MOVIES OR ON DEMAND ONLY.
I can’t believe that Dirty sexy money is being cancelled!!! I love DSM! ABC cancelled Big Shots and now this. There will be nothing worth watching.
How could you cancel Dirty sexy money and Eli Stone? They are they greatest shows on tv. This is crazy!!! I also love Lipstick Jungle!

Oh well, at least the first season is out on DVD. I agree with starshine and Sean.
I have to agree with you Sean this is a shame – I was really enjoying last nights episode. I hope they at least wrap up the storylines…
It’s a shame to see how the networks just cancel good television. All they want is the next huge hit. If it only gets average ratings (based on an outdated ratings system by the way) they cancel it right away and move on to the next show concept. And they wonder why scripted TV is going away. I’m not watching any more scripted TV! I get hooked into these shows and then there gone. Very disappointing.
