Last year, Lifetime cancelled Drop Dead Diva because the ratings weren’t high enough. Thanks to a special deal, the cable channel later decided to purchase a fifth season. Will the numbers justify a sixth season or will it be cancelled again? We shall see.
Drop Dead Diva airs on Sunday nights and there are 13 episodes. This time, the cast includes Brooke Elliott, Margaret Cho, Jackson Hurst, April Bowlby, Kate Levering, Lex Medlin, and Justin Deeley.
Below are the TV show’s ratings for the fifth season. These figures will be updated as the weeks progress so you can watch how it’s doing.
UPDATE: Lifetime has renewed the show for a sixth season of 13 episodes.
Final season averages: 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.99 million total viewers.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Year-to-year, the premiere was down by 13% in the demo (vs a 0.8 rating) and down by 6% in viewers (vs 2.3 million).
Reference point: The fourth season of Drop Dead Diva averaged a 0.8 demo rating and 2.3 million viewers.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you still like the Drop Dead Diva TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a sixth season?
Drop Dead Diva wasn’t cancelled in January because of ratings – it’s one of the highest rated shows on Lifetime AND cable TV!! It was cancelled because Lifetime wanted budget cuts on the show and they couldn’t come up with an agreed upon budget.. THAT’S why it was cancelled. I know fans like to think they “saved the show”, but in reality Josh Berman and other producers/Sony worked out a budget that Lifetime could live with so they “uncancelled” it.. I’m sure the fan support helped, though.
Thanks for your feedback but I don’t appreciate the name-calling (which I deleted from your comment). Yes, the production costs played a large role in Diva being cancelled. Though I think I could have been more clear, my point was that, if the ratings were higher, I think Lifetime would have paid them. It is one of the highest-rated shows on Lifetime. I think it’s a stretch to say it’s one of the highest-rated on cable. There are plenty that have better or comparable numbers. If Diva was bringing in viewership numbers like Walking Dead (10.4 million), Rizzoli & Isles… Read more »
Don’t cancel!!!!!
This is by far one of the best shows out there today. It’s funny, serious, well written, excellently casted and awesome. It hits on some of the story lines you hear about in the news, too. It’s informative and extremely entertaining. Also, about the Ratings: it’s unfair and incorrect to assume that these are the numbers. In actuality, the numbers are higher because it doesn’t take into consideration the number of viewers that see it via their computers, it doesn’t consider the TOTAL number of how many people per household are viewing it either. This show should stick around for… Read more »
I know what I say doesn’t matter but I hope the show isn’t isn’t canceled. If it has to b e canceled please let it have a story end.
Jane and Grayson have to get together.. I am very disappointed in the storyline also.. why in the world would they have Stacey having Owen’s baby..that is not a best friend to me..They are losing people due to the screwed up situations..I have watched every season and I am really disappointed in the whole thing now but I continue to watch just in case they make things different.. I love Jane and the rest of the cast (well not really Stacey and Owen could forgive Jane if he really loved her and I hate that they kept changing the Guardian… Read more »
BUT please DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW..I love my sunday nights watching DDD and Devious Maids..if you can DDD I might stop watching all of Lifetime shows.. they get rid of the good ones
I was intrigued by last week’s episode showing the dinner date with the latin attorney and his unexpected kiss! This character should reappear to get Jane away from Owen and from Grayson!!! HE was a H-O-T-T-I-E!!!!
Don’t cancel! I love this show! I love the actress playing Jane! She belongs with Owen! The stories are great! I dislike the storyline of Stacy having Owen’s baby!
Have viewers not noticed that the show is moving toward a series finale in which Jane dies? Stacy and Owen will have a baby (probably a girl named Deborah Jane) and Grayson will live happily ever after with his latest office romance (Laurel’s assistant from Arrow?). It’ll be full-circle from the pilot with them all attending her funeral – only this time everyone will talk about how great Jane was and she’ll go straight to heaven. It’s literally the only explanation that makes any sense. No person would be okay with their best friend having a baby with their ex-fiancé… Read more »
Bring it back!
missed last weeks episode but this is my all time fav show soooooooooooooooooooooooooo dont cancel it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually may be in the minority but I like Jane better with Owen than with Grayson. She has moved on from being Deb in love and Owen is really the better fit. I love the show and hope it doesn’t get cancelled again.
I loved DDD. I watched 4 seasons waiting for Jane to get Grayson. I was very happy when they finally kissed at the end of last season! I had very high hopes of them finally being together, but no. It has all been ruined by stupid things like old Jane returning to earth, Stacey being shallow and stupid, and Grayson kissing another woman! Jane is supposed to be with Grayson! This story line is awful. Did DDD writers do this to make sure the series gets cancelled? The cases are great, but the rest of the story is way off… Read more »

I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that Lifetime was bring back Drop Dead Diva. I was so upset when I saw that they were going to cancel the show. I had planned on black listing lifetime it seemed like reality shows were all they had to offer and I cant stand to watch them. Thank you Lifetime for bringing it back. I wish I knew how the nealson ratings worked. It doesn’t seem like the ratings are a true reflection of the viewers. I want to thank the sponsors that are supporting DDD A great big thanks to… Read more »
It’s a shame this nice show can’t get even a 1% rating. Where are all the people that didn’t want it cancelled? Doubt it that they will spend the $$ for another season.
The ratings are low because the people who fought for it have been disappointed with the story line. We waited for Jane and Grayson to be together only to have that not happen. After the 5th episode with Grayson kissing the assistant, we don’t want to see anymore.
Well, last Sunday’s episode was wonderful. Except for the Grayson + Assistant thingy (obviously, I want Grayson and Jane to be together). However, the cases presented were good ones and not silly, like they have been in the past couple of episodes. Keep the good work and the show will go on!
