What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the NBC television network, Emerald City is the tale of a young woman named Dorothy Gale (Adria Arjona). She finds her true strength and identity as she battles to bring a divided world together. An all-powerful ruler called the Wizard (Vincent D’Onofrio) governs over one kingdom. He has outlawed magic and faces a looming disaster brought on by a mythical force — as well as the wrath of a growing cauldron of witches. The rest of the cast includes Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Mido Hamada, Gerran Howell, Jordan Loughran, and Joely Richardson.
Season One Ratings
The first season of Emerald City on NBC averaged a 0.72 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.02 million viewers. Compare its standing against the other NBC TV shows we are tracking. This fantasy series has been on a rocky road. It was supposed to film in 2014 and air in 2015 but NBC cancelled production due to creative differences. The network reversed that decision in April 2015 and hired a new showrunner. The series didn’t premiere until January 2017 and was given a Friday night timeslot. That leads me to think they may not have much faith in the series. The ratings have been quite poor, even for a Friday night show. Unless something magical happens to lift the ratings, I believe the Emerald City series is doomed to be cancelled. Sorry, Dorothy. 5/5 update: Emerald City has been cancelled by NBC. There will be no second season. Details here.

What do you think? Do you think the Emerald City TV show should have been renewed for a second season? How do you feel about NBC’s cancelling this TV series?
This has only just been aired in new zealand in the last 4 weeks and absolutely loved it!!! Then after watching the final here only to find out it had beem cancelled… i am absolutely gutted!
I liked the show i have been waiting for it to return and when it didn’t i checked into it and you have cancelled it. That is sad for i truely liked it just like i liked the witches of east end and that got cancelled also i liked the secret circle and that was cancelled there are other shows that came on and got cancelled
Finding a TV program these days worth watching is hard. As consumers, we spend a lot of money of TV’s that mostly only see repeated movies and maybe a good cartoon. Society does this because its better than watching yet another singing competition, a crap remake or something you get to test your psychic powers with. Realistic drama’s work on weekday, but these tend to become predicitable until someone gets hit by a truck. Then you stumble on a program whos creative capability is exceptional, gains interest in its difference and meets a different demographic need, just for Mr Money… Read more »
I just binge watched the whole 10 episodes of the first season to go on to find out there’s no second season?!?! All I’m reading is how much people liked the show!!! Most other shows on tv are all the same in some way, this was something unique and different. I’m very disappointed!!!!
I loved the show. I’m very dissapointed to see it cancelled.. I really enjoyed the new and unique retelling I believe it was better than the origional.. I really hope that they reconsider..theres so much crap not even worth watching too much reality tv shows and the same old stuff redone but with no originality.. I might just have to give up tv and cable all together if the good shows just get cancelled and all the rest is a waist of my time and mind… I have better things to do then watch mindnumbing nonsense filled with horrific violence… Read more »
Is there any way they could change their minds about the show
I just found out about this cancellation. It makes me very sad. Its to late now I guess , but I loved that show and I was psyched to see what happened after he came back for her. It looked like it was going to be exciting
So disappointed this show was cancelled. Why do the good ones always get cancelled. I’m in the over 60’s crowd and I really liked it.
Absolutely loved it! I want more!
Really really p.ssed off …. Great show loved the dark side and thought had the legs f a few season so many storylines ..arghhhh typical suits with their heads up their A–e as per wouldn’t know quality if it jumped up and bit them inthe butt
This show was the best thing on TV in a long while. The characters were sensational, the story line was amazing and I was so looking forward to season 2. I hope some other network picks it up or NBC gets wise.
I’m so angry at this!!! Why take away something a lot of people loved including myself! This was one of the best tv shows I have watched. How can you just go and cancel bring it back or sell it to another Channel so we can enjoy the rest of it. So selfish….
I can’t believe it , it was such a great show in my opinion. We watched it every week as a family. It was refreshing different. Loved the scenery, the visuals , I thought it was an interesting story. This happens a lot , you watch a show invest your time in it , until the network decides no more. The network should’ve gave at least gave it season 2. WTF. It’s so funny nonsense like This is us is a huge success and a beautiful show like this gets cancelled. F NBC
This is why I stopped watching TV, one because cable companies rape you monthly because they can and two because it is never up to the viewers which shows they can continue watching or at least be offered a closure on the show. I watched this show because it was on Hulu, way cheaper than cable. Seriously guys bring the show back!
I want season 2 pleaseeeeee!!!!! I can’t move on after i finished with the last episode!!!
This is not cool. Everyone can’t watch right at the time it comes on. I just finished season 1 on Hulu, to find there will not be another. How about looking at the people who watch when it’s convenient. With streaming T.V. now of days, TV is not conventional like times of the past. Do a way with these outdated ways of judgeing whether or not a show should or shouldn’t be renewed. I’ve signed multiple petitions on bringing the show back. I encourage others to do so as well.
