With this being ER’s 15th and final season on NBC, there’s been a lot of talk about luring past castmembers back to the medical drama for one last goodbye. While a visit by George Clooney seems a little unlikely, Noah Wylie and Shane West are already scheduled to drop by County General during the final run.
Last March, executive producer David Zabel joked that he’d even like to see Dr. Mark Greene back at County General. As the character died in 2002, few took the idea seriously. But now, it appears Anthony Edwards will indeed return.
Thankfully, they aren’t trying to raise cancer victim Dr. Greene from the grave. He’ll appear as part of a flashback episode. It seems that new ER chief Dr. Cate Banfield (Angela Bassett) was a patient in the emergency room years ago — before she was a physician — and encountered Dr. Greene. NBC has hinted that other former castmembers will appear in the flashback scenes but hasn’t named any names. It’s rumored that ER veterans Dr. Kerry Weaver (Laura Innes) and the late Dr. Robert “Rocket” Romano (Paul McCrane) will appear alongside Dr. Greene.
The flashback is part of an episode entitled “Heal Thyself” and was written by Zibel. It’s expected to be filmed next week and will be broadcast during the next sweeps period, on November 13th. Can a return from Lucy Knight (Kellie Martin) or Dr. Romano (Paul McCrane) be far behind? Stay tuned!
