The Family stars Joan Allen stars as Claire Warren, Alison Pill as Willa Warren, Rupert Graves as John Warren, and Zach Gilford as Danny Warren. Margot Bingham is Detective Nina Meyer. Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

Good show with interesting twist…not the usual. Seems like the only type of series that makes it is cop shows. So, typical once you’ve seen one you have seen them all. They are never ending. But, something with a little meat in it is cancelled after only one season. This show showed so much promise and surprises. It is sad that network has so little vision
I really wish the networks would not be so quick to cancel tv shows based on 18 to 49 demographics. A lot if young people can’t afford cable and watch what they can get on the Internet . This was a really interesting and different kind of show. I just finished watching the last show and came online to check to make sure season 2 was going to be coming only to find the show had been cancelled. So disappointing!
I am so frustrated that it’s cancelled. At least have the author write a book if your going to cancel it, so those who like the show can have some closure. I love this show!
Omg!!! I love this freakin show I watch it every week! They cancel every show I fall in love with and get addicted to. I’m so pissed with ABC right now. I liked wicked city they cancelled that one too! I’m gonna boycot them let’s get a petition going on this!!!!
Yes please bring back family!! Great show!! I look forward to it every week and I was so looking forward to the fall season 2!! It’s one of the greatest series ever.. I don’t watch much TV at all I’m so active and don’t have much time however I made time for this series.. Please bring it back in the fall 🙂 Thank you!!
We loved this show. Why would they cancel it? Very unfair to the loyal viewers. Wel looked forward to watching it on Sumdays. We are very disappointed with ABC.
This sucks!! I loved the show!! It’s a sensitive topic for a lot of people, my husband says it’s depressing but I still enjoy the drama. Bring it back! !
Great storyline. Great acting. And now so many unanswered questions. This is such a shame! ABC please bring back The Family!

I watched weekly…ABC should have given the series anothef season…interesting twist that Adam is alive.,.where has he been? Raised as their son? What was that “box of trophies” Hank has under his bed? I’m hoping another network pick it up!
Seriously so disappointed by ABC’s decision to cancel this show. I don’t get how 3.2 million viewers is considered “a low number of viewers”. I looked forward to Sunday’s so much because of this show. It’s truly one of the best shows I’ve seen in years. So disappointed with ABC, I hope they realize the mistake they made and give us at least a second season that doesn’t leave us hanging.
We are so disappointed to learn that The Family has been canceled. We have watched every episode and think this is one of ABC’s best prime time shows. Please give it chance to succeed.

I also think it’s unfair because their a lot of people who enjoyed this show ? And it’s doesn’t makes sense why did they cancel it, if there’s are a lot of viewers who watch this show if there wasn’t viewers there wouldn’t be people comment for you guys to bring it back? How can you cancel a series with so many plot points still left to pursue? I thought The Family had a strong cast and enough writing for at least another season. Not to mention the fact that they had to compete with TWD, FTWD, GOT, NBA post season and the list goes on depending on the season. Bring it back and put it on during the week which should allow for better numbers.
