Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

I loved this show I hate that I don’t get to see it all the way through. I know alot who loved this.
I don’t understand why it was canceled. The Family is a really good show a great plot, I think maybe it should had came on a different day. AMC plays the walking dead and also fear of the walking dead which airs the same time.
PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THE FAMILY!!!! It is the one show each week I look forward to. I set the DVR to record, but end up watching it live as I can’t wait to see what happens next. ABC, please give this high quality, entertaining show a chance!
I’m so disappointed that The Family is being canceled after one season! Give it a c other chance ABC!! It’s a great show! Renew it and advertise the heck out of it. It’s worth it! Put all of season 1 available on demand for new viewers to catch up, and put another season out there!! Not all TV shows are INSTANT mega hits like “How to Get Away With Murder,” and “Empire.” Some shows take awhile to catch on…consider the fact that it started midseason…it wasn’t given the coveted Fall start up time slot…it just kinda slid in there, under… Read more »
I really enjoyed the show. I was on edge and I knew something was up when they tied EVERYTHING together so fast. A season 2 would have been nice
I’m very into the show. It has had a lot of ups and downs. I’m hoping they will at least make a final episode to show Adam with his family.
The Family is so well written and unpredictable I am shock it is canceled!! I just don’t u derstand why!!
I agree, the network jumped the gun on cancellation. The Family got DVRed by me and other people watching other shows, like the final episodes of The Good Wife. Now that The Good Wife is over, they would watch The Family in that time slot. It’s like they set up the show to fail from the beginning. Please, please bring this show back!
I am very disappointed that this show was canceled. I really enjoyed the twists and turns and was truly looking forward to see what was going to happen next season. Now I will never know. I think they were too quick to judgment and did not give the show a fair chance. I think it was one of the better shows on. Makes me angry to see it go and see that other shows with no redeeming qualities are left on the air. Exactly what were they thinking? I’m so sad that ABC has Cancelled the show, The Family..it is a very well written and keeps me glued from beginning to end each week. I feel that the network does not care about their viewers, because the also cancelled our family’s favorite television show, Nashville..we only watch two other shows on ABC, and that’s Quantico and Agents of shields..I’ve decided that I’m done investing anymore time on of the new shows coming to ABC, I’m tired of them canceling shows on us.
Really sad to end a series that was brilliantly acted with rich sets and superb direction. Why? What is ABC’s problem?

I agree. I really got into this show. But then ABC always seems to cancel shows I like, so I am not surprised. Apparently, if you are older than 49, you no longer count as a person. Well we all know it’s all about the money. Money talks and I guess this show wasn’t making enough for the execs. Sorry to see the show has been cancelled.
