The Family stars Joan Allen stars as Claire Warren, Alison Pill as Willa Warren, Rupert Graves as John Warren, and Zach Gilford as Danny Warren. Margot Bingham is Detective Nina Meyer. Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

I don’t believe they should have cancelled the show. It was by far the most exciting show that I’ve seen in awhile and the season finale was amazing! I can’t believe they won’t be bringing it back. I think they should reconsider.
Write ABC here and let them know that they need to also base their statistics of viewing on people watching it on Hulu or online the next day. They should use those figures also.

This show should not have been cancel. I watched it from the beginning. You could have changed the time to Monday at 9pm. Last night biggest reveal was not just Adam being alive but that Jane is a Monster. She obvious was in this with Doug taking little boys. This storyline open up many doors. I think that Adam is Jane baby daddy. Adam and Ben had gotten to old for Doug. I think that he let Ben go and kept Adam for Jane. Jane had no idea about Doug’s taking Adam and Ben. She wasn’t in on it at all, in fact she was surprised when she heard him kicking in the shed. There’s no way he’s the baby’s daddy. Did you even watch the show??
Super disappointed to have this show cancelled. It’s my favorite and I look forward to it each Sunday night. So disappointing. You never really gave it a fair chance. Please reconsider this.

I am so upset. I loved this show!!! And watched The Family week after and looked forward to it. It kept me on edge. ABC you are making a big mistake. I don’t understand some of things your network does and this is just another example. Hopefully another network will pick it up.
I HATE to even start watching a new series, especially on network TV! As soon as you find a show that is create it is gone . . . . replaced by another reality show. Move the show to another time slot ABC, give it another chance.
Why do networks do this? Cancel a great show with a cliffhanger. This was well written, well acted and riveting to watch. I think the network at least should film an episode to answer the many questions we are left with. Is it really Adam? Hank’s dilemma with his urges, did Willa murder the reporter, does Jane get to Canada? We want the answers and our imaginations just arent enough to fill the void. I have similar questions, but how can Jane get to Canada without Adam having a passport? And of course it’s Adam. It’s the same actor in the bunker as is on the phone telling Ben he stole his life. So many other questions though… Willa couldn’t have murdered Bridey, at least not by herself. And who could she have trusted and hired to do it? How was Bridey able to find Ben’s mother if he was a foster kid since he was only a few years old? Where did Danny end up going? Ben meeting Doug on the bench –… Read more »
Please don’t cancel The Family. It has so many angles: from a monster who becomes a hero for awhile, to a treacherous reporter, from a mother who wants then doesn’t want then finally sees deeply, to a girlfriend who abhors the real monster then is complicit in detaining and rescuing a captive, to a policewoman who sins and is redeemed, to the stories of the captive sons. I love this show!!! Please don’t cancel it! I’m so tired of these great shows getting cancelled without really giving it a chance! Now I want to see what happens even more.
Hate you ABC – best show on TV – very upset this was cancelled. Another show leaves us hanging!!! One of the few shows I looked forward to watching on TV – extremely well written.
Why? Why? And Why? This show was amazing and well written super suspenseful. Let’s let stupid reality shows still air season after season but something of great substance cancel. I’m hoping someone else picks up this show, what a let down…
I say shame shame on ABC. A good show with an interesting story line to follow and then slam in your face they choose to cancel it with out fulfilling the viewers answers. “Resurrection” ring any bells??
NOOOOOOOOOO, we are so sad that this show was cancelled. My mom and I watched it together every week and I got all my co-workers hooked on it too. If anything, film and air the first episode to the next season we we aren’t left with all these unanswered questions. Soooo bummed right now.
