Though Forever has been struggling in the ratings, ABC has ordered nine additional episodes, bringing the first season tally to 22 installments.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner is Doctor Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd). He can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out how or why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The show debuted in late September and got off to a poor start, following the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars on a Monday night. It attracted a 1.5 rating with 8.26 million viewers. The following night, in its permanent timeslot, the demo rose to a 1.8 rating but viewership dropped to 6.62 million.
In week two, the ratings tumbled to a 1.4 in the demo with 5.66 million. In week three, they fell even lower and the numbers have been hovering around a 1.1 rating with fewer than five million viewers.
While Forever can hardly be considered a ratings success, the network apparently feels its performing well enough to be given some more time. They may also not have anything better to put into its place.
The show also sees significant percentage gains in the Live+7 reports, an indication that people are watching Forever but it’s not “appointment television.” ABC recently touted that Forever saw an 82% boost in the Live+7 ratings for October 14th — going from a 1.1 rating to a 2.0 rating. That seems impressive but it’s important to remember that all the rest of ABC’s shows (ones with better “live” ratings) also saw big boosts. For example, that week’s How to Get Away with Murder bumped from a 2.8 to a 4.9 demo rating.
In the long run, unless the ratings improve, it’s hard to imagine that Forever will see a second season.
But, what do you think? Have you been watching Forever? Do you think it’s a better show than what the ratings seem to indicate?
Late in watching it, but once I got into it I was sorry that I missed so many episodes. Great show. Keep it.
Please keep this show. The actors are great and it’s an intelligent, thought provoking show.
Great entertaining show !hope it comes back for season two
This is a great program and is totally entertaining. It is intelligent, witty, and keeps the audience guessing till the end. Please keep for another season. Just give it more time to build an audience. If you show it, they will watch.
Great show . Please don’t cancel.
It is difficult at best, to find programs on regular television, that entertain as well as entice the viewer to problem solve. This series has done this…..and has the potential to do so much more. The characters are intriguing and engaging. As I watch the show, I am interested in seeing the development of the characters and the relationships among them. When the program ends, I yearn for more or longer episodes, and that rarely happens. There is a quirkiness to this program, an immortal, who does good, with very human and humble qualities. Throw in mystery, what is there… Read more »
Oh, Mrs. E, I SOOO agree ! “FOREVER” is building an army of loyal fans who believe in it and have made it our quest to convince TPTB to RENEW “FOREVER” FOR ANOTHER SEASON, AND BEYOND ! There hasn’t been a series of its caliber to grace our TV screens in a very long time. I could dwell on the absurd renewals of all the less deserving shows who manage to satisfy the 18-49 demo in the ‘numbers game’; but, I won’t waste my precious time or give them any further credence by naming them here. Instead, we faithful viewers… Read more »
This is an amazing show that simply has to be stuck with for it to have it’s full effect.
‘Forever’ is a wonderful show. Great writing and a superb cast. The chemistry of the cast is wonderful. The story line is superb. Please DO NOT cancel!!!!! ABC has ordered an additional 9 episodes. With that said, maybe changing it to another night would help keep this show going. Or just give it a whole season 2 to see where it’s at in the ratings. ‘Forever’ has a story line like no other. Yes, it’s a crime type show but it’s such a better crime show compared to the other long running ones and all of their spin offs, such… Read more »
I love this show, please don’t cancel i. There are very few shows on that are worth watching and this show is a good show
Very well done show. Be careful to not change the premise to much. The interactions with all the characters is spot on, like to eventually see more backstories on Henry’s immortal foe(forgot his name); maybe even have his detective partner discover his true secret-eventually.
Agree with all the above! Very well written to a point that you have to watch closely since you never can predict anything!
Great Show ! Love it very much, please don’t cancel it. It needs more time. Many of my friends have started watching it after I told them about it and they also like it a lot.
This is a great show. Like Grimm, it will likely build a devoted large following but not be apparent in the first ratings like that.
Really enjoy this show – something different for a change from all the reality crap – and a good cast. Since it’s well done & intelligent I imagine you’ll cancel it, but really wish you’d keep it.
I dropped cable when I realized the shows I was watching were old programs I already had on disk. Most of the new stuff is so mindless.
I agree please don’t cancel this show. Realize that there are still mature individuals out here that can not relate to reality show insanity. You have created a modern day Quincy. Its the perfect blend of realistic medical issues, a who done it, mixed with fantasy immortality.
We want a second season. The writers are brilliant and the acting is honest.
Finally…a great show, well written, character driven with peole you actually like and root for…and a premise, if one simply accepts as is, is a delight to watch. A show that has the word CLEVER written into it be design. Tell me… what becomes of the loyal fans when those whose job it is to simply watch the numbers, fail to understand what really good TV means to the viewers? At least the series….”Life On Mars” when its cancellation notice went out… ended the one year run satisfying their viewer base. Clearly viewers would love to see their primary character… Read more »
I concur.
