Doctor Henry Morgan may be immortal but his TV show isn’t. ABC has cancelled the Forever TV series after one season of 22 episodes.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner (Ioan Gruffudd) can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out the how or the why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series debuted last September to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. The ratings grew for episode two but they started falling after that.
Though the Forever series had some very passionate fans, that devotion didn’t translate into positive ratings. The numbers were pretty poor for much of the season and the show ended up averaging a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million viewers.
As a result, ABC has decided against ordering a second season of Forever. The last episode aired earlier this week and unfortunately left viewers with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Did you like the Forever TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a larger audience?
Forever cancelled?? ABC does not know what they are doing! There is too much Reality TV on and not enough good shows left. Forever was one of those shows that was thoroughly enjoyable. The actors are great along with the chemistry. I certainly do hope ABC changes their decision to cancel this wonderful show.
I wish that forever was not cancelled. I thought it was a great show and every time something comes along that is not a reality show or a comedy that is not funny it is taken off the air. Not everyone like to watch “reality”. Very disappointed in your programmers.
Nooooooooooo……!!!!!!!!
Canceling one of my favorite tv show ? I am not over yet about Grey’s Anatomy …. killing off Derek ,now this one ? What is wrong with ABC ? I guess time to starts watching to cbs. I’m very positive ” I am not watching another series of Greys Anatomy “.
I will really miss this show so much waited every week form it and recorded all of them to watch over and over hope they can somehow change their minds and put it back on, and I’m 38 years old right in there ratings ages
I have had it. I am not even wasting my time on any new series. Everyone I get interested in gets cancelled. This was a great program and if ABC would keep playing the series week after week instead of putting something else on then 2 weeks later Forever comes back people would watch. Done getting interested in any of your new series will watch Fox News for 4 hours.
Good comment about the 2 week interruptions in scheduling.
This was a great show. Our new favorite. Can not believe ABC cancelled it. All most people want to watch these days is reality TV. There is nothing REAL about those shows. This is a travesty.
Hopefully another network will see the draw that this show has with its loyal viewers. Shows that give one something to think about don’t do very well in primetime while the “no brainers” often do. Sad statement.
Please don’t cancel!!! This is the best show! Such a great story and plot that can really go somewhere.
This is just horrible, I truly believe that once you are over the age of 49 your opinion counts for absolutely nothing. It seems that unless you are between the ages of 18-49 you have no say so in what should be on the TV. It is us over the age of 49 who will be watching more of TV than the 18-49 because we will not really have the responsibility of raising children and we don’t run out to the bars and night clubs like the younger people do and working 12+ hours everyday to climb the ladder, we… Read more »
While those over 49 may watch more TV, they unfortunately don’t spend as much of their income on the products and services advertised during said programming. Ads are how TV makes money, so the more valuable your viewing audience is (either by huge overall numbers, or by successfully targeting a valuable demographic), you can charge more for airtime for ads. While I liked the show (I thought the finale was great, too), it simply didn’t get good ratings…which seems to be the case with a lot of shows I liked. (Community on NBC, for example had fewer overall viewers, but… Read more »
Where did you get these nonsensical statistics? Stop generalising.
Like I’ve said before, I’m not sure how they get their ratings. Do you have to sign up for a program that you select a star or 1-5 on how much you like the show? If so, I’ve never heard of it. I’m 46 and there are so many shows out there that there is no way to watch all of the ones I like when they air, as they overlap with others that I watch. Thank God for Hulu & On Demand for next-day watching. I would love to be able to let the stations know how much I… Read more »
The show is excellent. I can’t believe it’s cancelled WHY ? please renew it
This is complete BS. Forever was scoring better ratings than Shield and it gets cancelled? Seriously?
This was one of ABC’s better shows… I loved every episode! I wanted to see more!
ABC is run by a bunch of idiots. I’d rather watch shows like Forever than dancing with the D-Stars. They are pathetic!
Idiotic to cancel that show as just as the majority of your shows on your network shows are junk & garbage!
forever..cancelled?!! please…really?! ABC…are u guys moron or sumthing?!!!
Was so unhappy and shocked. Great stars and chemistry. The show is excellent. Scheduled time probably what wad wrong. Move to different day and time. There are other days u can try. So much more left to explore and finding answers. I don’t think ur going to find a successful replacement. This is a great show.
I guess the ABC programmers must all be under 40 years old. The premise of a show being about a Dr. Morgan who stands between wrong and right and gets blessed or cursed with immortality and uses the gift to help solve questionable deaths and crimes, is not entertainment. The medical sherlock Holmes genre laced with historical trivia like the Roger Mario perfect no hitter and the modern history that he supposedly missed when lucas makes a statement about a modern day incident or thing and Henry replies what’s that and lucas says you’re joking. There is so much that… Read more »
