TV show description:
A fantasy crime drama, this TV series follows New York City’s star medical examiner — Doctor Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd), handsome man with a secret past. No matter how hard he tries, Henry can’t age even a single day — he’s immortal. He doesn’t know much about what happens when he “dies” except that everything on him disappears and he reemerges in a body of water, naked.
Henry doesn’t just study the dead to solve criminal cases however. He does it to try to solve the mystery that has eluded him for 200 years — the reason for his own inexplicable immortality.
Henry’s long life has given him remarkable observation skills which impresses his new partner, Detective Jo Martinez (Alana De La Garza). This piques her curiosity about who he is. Each new case and their budding friendship reveal layers of Henry’s long and colorful past. Jo’s sharp, no-nonsense instincts and her ability to close difficult cases have given her a tough-as-nails reputation on the force, despite also dealing with the untimely loss of her husband.
Lucas Wan (Joel David Moore) is a twenty-something self-proclaimed “artisan of death” and Henry’s worshipful assistant. He considers mortuary science an art, and Henry its Picasso. After transplanting to New York City from rural Ohio, Lucas worked up the courage to introduce himself to the star medical examiner at a crime scene.
A Brooklyn native, Detective Hanson (Donnie Keshawarz) works alongside Jo and has worked his way up to the NYPD’s elite squad of homicide detectives. He’s a family man who lives with his wife and two children in Queens. Unafraid of bending the rules to get the job done, Hanson is sometimes skeptical of Henry’s talent but often admires its effectiveness.
No one knows Henry better than his best friend and confidant, an antique shop owner named Abe (Judd Hirsch). The keeper of Henry’s immortality secret, Abe’s “carpe diem” philosophy inspires Henry to get more in touch with the beauty of living. Abe is not immortal but he is determined to make the most out of every moment of life.
Episode #22 — The Last Death of Henry Morgan
Henry and Adam have been on a long, unrelenting collision course, which is about to come to a head – possibly bringing about one man’s death – with only Jo standing in the way. Henry and Jo’s murder investigation into a museum worker’s death centers on a priceless missing ancient dagger, which not only ended the life of Julius Caesar, but also killed Adam the first time.
Meanwhile, Adam knows that there is something that Henry fears more than death – that Jo might discover his mystery. The two men tangle in a tumultuous game-changing confrontation.
First aired: May 5, 2015.
What do you think? Do you like the Forever TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I agree with the previous commentary with the addition of Battle Creek. However, it does cause me to turn the TV off more frequently and enjoy books more often.
I am so disappointed to hear of this cancellation. The show offered characters about whom I care, historic background into medical practice and mores, and an escape into fantasy I’ve appreciated because our family has had too much mortality to deal with in recent years. Guess I’ll be reading more on Tuesday nights.
I loved Forever. It reminded me of the book “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and I enjoyed reading that book. It was a very entertaining show. It was more entertaining than all those reality shows that they keep renewing year after year. Why can’t we get more shows like Forever???
I am old enough to know better but still foolish enough to believe that shows like Forever will be renewed. If they don’t involve gratuitous violence or sex, they are likely to get the axe quickly. I get it, it is all about ratings and dollars and to that end, it is tough to argue. Just considered it the consequence of the culture we find ourselves living in now.
It blew my mind when I heard that two of the best new shows, Forever (ABC) and Backstrom (FOX), were cancelled. So many quality shows seem to get cancelled before they are even given any chance to build up an audience. In place of these shows networks often go with very mediocre, very cheap reality shows. What I find laughable is that these reality shows are not “real” at all because the people in them know that they have cameras on them and in turn “act” they way they think they should when being filmed. Since few of them have… Read more »
Here I was getting ready to try to catch up with Forever because our satellite box went on the fritz and I missed a few. Guess there’s no point in going to the trouble now. It seems that the shows I like are like the “limited time only” offerings at fast food places. I have stopped even considering buying any of those because I’ll start liking it and then they do away with it. I guess I’ll have to start waiting a couple of seasons before I take a chance on a new show, just to be sure it keeps… Read more »
PLEASE don’t cancel FOREVER..best show on Prime time. Bad decions to cancel this show! I know so many people who LOVE this show..I just cannot believe it! The cast and story lines are Great and orginal…PLEASE reconsider and bring back this GREAT show.
This was the ONLY new show of the 2014-15 season that I actually enjoyed. As usual, the one rare show I can actually get into gets cancelled. One of the other 2 shows I watch is ending also. Soon I will give up on TV completely. It’s a shame because Forever had a lot going for it.
Listen to these comments!! It’s a good show!! Reconsider, please!
NOOOO!!!! Bring it back!!!!
Of course ABC decided to dismiss yet another wonderful tv show. Forever should have a run of seven or eight years. There is a huge audience out there but many people nowadays watch their shows via their mobil devices or on prime demand. If they are still assessing the ratings as to the numbers of viewers who watch during its weekly airing then shame on the executives for using an archaic Nielsen ratings gauge. Remember how ABC cut so many other great shows such as: Body of Evidence, Pan Am, Red Widow and 666 Park Avenue? Shame on them for… Read more »
I can’t believe Forever is cancelled. Please reconsider!!! I just loved it!
I love this show! And, it truly reminded me of a book I read years ago with same title, written by author, Pete Hamil. Though the circumstances of Henry’s curse/gift are different, the premise is the same and I have to say, ABC made a huge mistake letting this one go. With the onslaught of reality television and the way it has destroyed quality programming, I am saddened by the loss of this show, it was something to look forward to every week. I don’t watch many programs on cable, since most of which I enjoy is either on Netflix… Read more »
It is very sad that FOREVER, a class act in TV, has been cancelled. It is very poor commentary on what the public prefers to watch…murder, mayhem, backstabbing, cheating spouses. Please renew this show and show your viewers THERE IS something better to offer on TV.
UNBELIEVABLE!! Who makes these decisions?? This is one of my favorite shows and now it will be gone…It was well written, well acted and I looked forward to seeing it every week. It was an interesting change of pace from all of the typical police dramas out there…ABC made the same bad decision a few years back when they axed Fast Forward, another awesome show!! To all of the actors on the show: I thought you did an outstanding job and will miss you…Good luck to all!
