With two weeks to go before the network upfronts, we have some long-awaited and sad news regarding the fate of CW’s Gilmore Girls.
The CW has released a joint statement from the network and Warner Bros. Television that says “Announcing the final season of Gilmore Girls is truly a sad moment for everyone at The CW and Warner Bros. Television. This series helped define a network and created a fantastic, storybook world featuring some of television’s most memorable, lovable characters. We thank Amy Sherman-Palladino, Dan Palladino, Dave Rosenthal, the amazing cast led by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as well as the producers, writers and crew for giving us this delightful gem for the past seven years. We would also like to thank the critics and Gilmore fans for their passionate support and promise to give this series the send off it deserves.”
Rumors have gone back and forth for months on whether an agreement could be reached with key cast members so that Gilmore Girls could return for another season. There was even a rumor earlier today that negotiations had stalled and it looked unlikely that they would resume. It appears that rumor was true.
Once sure that the series was not returning, CW likely wanted to announce the news immediately so that viewers would be more likely to tune in to watch the final two episodes.
Will the series finale on May 15th be a fulfilling way to close the series? Does this ensure that CW’s Veronica Mars will be renewed? Stay tuned!
I am so sad to see Gilmore Girls go. It was one of the most underrated and appreciated shows on television for the last 7 years. Even with a down turn in writing the writing was still some of the best on TV. I’ve honestly never written or gotten sad about a shows departure — but I am about this one.
I agree with Woopie. Once Rory made it into Yale (and all the while we thought she was going to Harvard – wow, what a twist!),
the tension was gone. The relationship between mother and daughter became flabby and artificial. And the “snappy” dialogue (the big reason I watched) no longer snapped, it tried too hard and became irritating. Time to say adieu to Stars Hollow.
I watch The Gilmore Girls every tuesday. My daughter and I love this show. We are both extremely angry that the CW would stop this series so early. The last episode was such a disappointment.
this is so unfair. there`s so much left undone. if they need writers i would be totally willing to volunteer. i wouldn`t even expect a lot for pay seeing i only have ever worked for minimum wage which was usually $8.00 an hour. and now i have been diagnosed with M.S. and the one thing i loved to do is watching the girls. such a shame.
ATTENTION GILMORE GIRLS FANS: I think Gilmore Girls fans should get together and protest to the network that cancelled this show. They have cancelled an intelligent, creative, extremely witty and warm show with a cast full of wonderful characters and writers who are gifted. Everything about this show was high quality and the casting was superb. I have no idea what precipitated this extremely poor network programming decision by the new so-called CW network. If the starring cast members were seeking wage increases, they should have been given them and suitably rewarded for their first class performances. The more intelligent… Read more »
What an awesome show! The best ever! From the cast to it’s creator, I don’t watch much T.V., but I never missed one episode of the Gilmore Girls. Amy, I look forward to anything you create in the future, you’re awesome! Where you lead I will follow.I’ll miss you all ):Good thing I bought all the seasons.
I truly loved The Gilmore Girls! My daughters and my son did too. We really looked forward to watching every week, we watched reruns and we have all the seasons.I don’t watch much T.V., BUT I never missed the Gilmore Girls. My kids recorded the show for me if I had to work. It really saddens me to see it end. I was hoping to see Luke and Lorelai get married. Anyway, the show was truly something to look forward to and we will miss it and all the people of Star’s Hollow. Amy, we look forward to anything you create in… Read more »

Sad but true! The Gilmore Girls is a very fascinating show, witty, charming, serious and intelligent.
It was like “Sisters”, “Providence” and “Molly Dodd”: too good to be true! But it is TRUE!
I Love This SHOW!
OMG!!! I Can’t believe that Gilmore Girls is being cancelled!!! It’s one of my favorite shows!!
I am really mad, this is my favorite show ever. My mother and I sit down every tuesday and watch it. It is the only time that i truley get to hang out with her. Now that it is not going to be on anymore, i wont be able to see her as much. They should not cancel the show so fast, they should AT LEAST have one more season. They should not just announce it and then only have two more episodes. So please listen to all those fans who write and say how much they love this show.DONT… Read more »
I absolutely cannot believe that this will be the finale of Gilmore Girls! I own every season of them out so far and have watched them over 3 times through! My friends and I have nights where we “Gilmore it” just watching episode after episode! It’s not right! Why are they taking off a great tv show that millions love? Why don’t the tv networks take off some of the ridiculous reality tv!
