Girls will return to HBO with its fifth season in January. However, there is more talk about the end of the popular series this week.
TV Series Finale reported in October that Lena Dunham might be ready to end the series after season six, and now HBO has put the fate of the series completely in Dunham’s hands.
Vulture reported that Richard Plepler, HBO’s CEO, is trusting Dunham’s vision. He said:
“I am leaving this decision up to the artist, because [Lena] has an arc in mind of how she wants to continue with the show and eventually finish telling her story. She will make that determination. We love her. More importantly, I really do trust her voice and her instincts. So, however she wants to proceed and close her story, it’s her decision.”
Does this mean that Lena Dunham will follow through with her earlier comments and end the series after its sixth season? With season five still yet to air, it is too soon to tell.
