The Broadchurch TV show was a success in the UK so FOX decided to remake it here — with one of the same lead actors. Though Gracepoint is being promoted as a limited series, FOX will surely want to make a second season if it’s a hit (as is being done with Broadchurch). What do you think? Should it be renewed or cancelled?
Gracepoint begins when a young boy is found dead on an idyllic beach in a small northern California town. The tragedy and media frenzy soon turns neighbor against neighbor as the police try to figure out what happened. The cast includes David Tennant, Anna Gunn, Michael Peña, Virginia Kull, Madalyn Horcher, Kendrick Sampson, Nick Nolte, Jacki Weaver, Kevin Rankin, Sarah-Jane Potts, , Stephen Louis Grush, Kevin Zegers, Jessica Lucas, and Nikolas Filipovic.
The show debuted on October 2nd to a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.76 million viewers. It was a poor start to be sure and the series was in fourth place in its timeslot. The second episode dropped 25% in the demo to a 0.9 rating with just 3.8 million viewers. It seems likely that tonight’s episode will perform even worse.
Even though FOX is really struggling right now, these numbers are already terrible. There’s very little chance that they’ll consider bringing Gracepoint back for another season. Fortunately for the viewers who are watching, the season finale should wrap up the show.
Will the network cancel Gracepoint before all 10 episodes have aired? There’s a chance but it seems unlikely considering the state of the rest of their schedule. If they do drop it prematurely, they’d surely release the remaining episodes online.
But, what do you think? Are you enjoying Gracepoint? Will you watch until the end? Would you consider watching a second season with a new mystery or is 10 episodes enough?
One of the few shows I have stuck with this season. Maybe because it makes you think a little and perhaps people are more real. Not neat and perfect like most shows. A 10 story arc will suffice.
I saw the series that was on BBC America but Gracepoint has different actors. I am watching this one but I already know who the killer is if it is like the BBC episodes. You will be shocked when you find out who it is.
By all means, renew! This show is head & shoulders above most others both in characters & plot
I agree!
I own the original and I’m very much enjoying Gracepoint. David’s accent is near PERFECT, not surprising when he had Meryl Streep’s voice coach! In some ways it’s BETTER than Broadchurch. There, I said it. KEEP IT GOING! Don’t let anyone make you think you have to choose between Broadchurch and Gracepoint, I love BOTH. #REFUSETOCHOOSE Shamefully a lot of Broadchurch fans are doing their best to make this show fail by posting negative comments. And a LOT of them obviously hate Americans going by their comments. BTW the French are remaking Broadchurch as well. Go hate them for a… Read more »
Keep it going!!! I’m hooked! I’ve seen all three episodes that have been aired and am eager to see the next. This show has helped me cry and feel emotions I’ve not felt before. Last night, I was shocked, angry, hurt, and sympathetically relieved! A friend of mine said it right…”I love a good ‘Who done it’.” If it’s cancelled, I’ll never know!!!! Give us “just 3.8 million”, or so, viewers some satisfaction. Allow us to see it all!!!
They won’t stop it – I’m sure the series will run its course and you’ll know who did it. You will have to wait until the last of the last episode! The plot twists are great and if they cancel before it’s finished then I can tell you who the baddie is Sherrie
Gunn was great in Breaking Bad, so I watched the first couple of episodes. Found Tennant’s wanna be beard comical. To sum up: trying too hard to be like The Killing (a Danish clone), which was outstanding. Gracepoint is a pale imitation.
Watched the original when it came out, a slow paced show to be sure.
I have not even given the US version a chance as the UK version just aired so recently.
I rarely watch shows JUST for the actors, I watch for the story line and this just seems to be a retelling with a few changes of the same UK story.
I pass.
I will say if the people who have not seen the UK version watch the US version, they should be pleased.
I OWN the original and I love Gracepoint. #refusetochoose
I am loving this show!! Have it set as series recording on my
DVR and can’t wait for it to record each week. I never even heard of the English version, but sure am enjoying the Amerrican version. Please do not cancel this show. It’s fantastic!!!!
I agree! So glad you feel the same way we do!
Geez people…. at least keep it till the story is finished! I’m sick of networks starting a storyline then BINGO… they decide to drop it. All that does is make irate viewers!
Pointless show as it is an exact remake of a much better show which you can easily get on DVD. Virginia Kull and Anna Gunn are the only decent actors in it. The father and Anna Gunn’s husband are wooden. David Tennant has a laughable American accent, either a terrible haircut or weird wig and only has two facial expressions – bored or angry. This was supposed to have diverged after episode 2 but it’s the same and isn’t good enough on its own terms to warrant being made. I presume Fox will bury this somewhere late late night or… Read more »
I disagree. In some ways it’s better than Broadchurch. There, I said it. Tennant’s acting is supposed to be subdued but then if you’re the Broadchurch fan you claim you are then you know why. His accent is fine, he had Meryl Streeps voice coach. You’re just one of those fans that wants the series to fail because you’re butthurt it was made. Seriously, get a LIFE.
I absolutely agree Ginger – David Tennnant is acting that way because of who his character is and his past etc the story of which is unfolding, just need a bit of patience. I own and loved Broadchurch. Global have said Gracepoint will be different but have to say I haven’t seen differences yet. I think the problem is that people here (Canada) and in America are used to USA made program’s story lines (except soap operas!) proceeding quickly whereas British made tend to unfold a story and develop characters deeply. I am from New Zealang and enjoy British drama… Read more »
I don’t understand when people say there have been no differences in the two shows. There were major differences out of the shoot–in the first episode, the cause of death is different, which alone means that more people could have done it than in Broadchurch. In BC they limited it to being a man. In GP it could be anybody. The minister in GP is completely different from Arthur Darville’s very sweet and sympathetic minister. In GP he is creepy and clearly has a thing for Beth and a long history which either didn’t exist or was never mentioned in… Read more »
Have to disagree with you on several points there L.K. but have had enough chatting about Gracepoint so this is my last post. Hopefully we get to see it all, if not – those of you who are enjoying it, I suggest you buy Broadchurch from Amazon or the like and I am sure you will enjoy it and if you live near central Calgary I am happy to loan you my copy! Just leave a comment and I will give you my Facebook details and we can private message from there 🙂 Long may Gracepoint run and in the… Read more »
Sorry, but no disrespecting David Tennant – you’ve got to remember there is something wrong with his character health wise – the story is unfolding now plus what happened in the past that the reporter refers too. His accent is okay – I find it funny because his ‘real’ voice is so so Scottish! But he is a superb actor and is just playing the character as it should be done.
I really enjoy Gracepoint. I hope they don’t stop showing it and let us watch all the series. Sometimes it is good to have a show a bit slow as there are some people who have a dementia problem and can’t keep up with fast show.
I like the show.. but it is a little slow moving and not enough character expansion… hope they do not take it off the air…
I say keep it going! I loved Broadchurch but also think that Gracepoint as it goes along is going to get better and better. David Tennant is fabulous as always!
We never saw or even knew about Broadchurch, but we are thoroughly taken with Gracepoint! Pls do not cancel before we know the ending!!! It’s already managed to surprise us!
Since Broadchurch was aired so recently, I could not see the point in producing a North American series that was basically the same. I started watching Gracepoint and I was put off by the way it was Broadchurch-Americanized and also by David Tennant having to put on an American accent. I failed to see why he had to change his accent and it put me off because it seemed so phony to portray him that way. The show did not appeal to me the same way the British series did and I quickly abandoned the show. I suggest it be… Read more »
You are so right about British dramas being the best in the World. I really miss BBC America but I had to cut my Dish programming down and now I don’t get this anymore. I did see Broadchurch but I am watching the Americanized version because of some of the actors and actresses but I already know who the killer is.
Cast and crew members have said the killer will be different. The cause of death is different, so it could be anybody.
