The Broadchurch TV show was a success in the UK so FOX decided to remake it here — with one of the same lead actors. Though Gracepoint is being promoted as a limited series, FOX will surely want to make a second season if it’s a hit (as is being done with Broadchurch). What do you think? Should it be renewed or cancelled?
Gracepoint begins when a young boy is found dead on an idyllic beach in a small northern California town. The tragedy and media frenzy soon turns neighbor against neighbor as the police try to figure out what happened. The cast includes David Tennant, Anna Gunn, Michael Peña, Virginia Kull, Madalyn Horcher, Kendrick Sampson, Nick Nolte, Jacki Weaver, Kevin Rankin, Sarah-Jane Potts, , Stephen Louis Grush, Kevin Zegers, Jessica Lucas, and Nikolas Filipovic.
The show debuted on October 2nd to a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.76 million viewers. It was a poor start to be sure and the series was in fourth place in its timeslot. The second episode dropped 25% in the demo to a 0.9 rating with just 3.8 million viewers. It seems likely that tonight’s episode will perform even worse.
Even though FOX is really struggling right now, these numbers are already terrible. There’s very little chance that they’ll consider bringing Gracepoint back for another season. Fortunately for the viewers who are watching, the season finale should wrap up the show.
Will the network cancel Gracepoint before all 10 episodes have aired? There’s a chance but it seems unlikely considering the state of the rest of their schedule. If they do drop it prematurely, they’d surely release the remaining episodes online.
But, what do you think? Are you enjoying Gracepoint? Will you watch until the end? Would you consider watching a second season with a new mystery or is 10 episodes enough?
let the ten episodes play I am invested and want to know who is the murderer
I think this show is one of the best of the new season. I was hooked after the first 30 minutes. I really hope it takes off and the Fox Powers that Be decide to go for another season.
Gracepoint is an excellent drama. The suspense of the plot along with realistic acting certainly make this program a must watch
love it
Looks like it’s getting dumped. Word just now that Fox is going to rest this (ie they can’t bear any further bleed of ratings) and move in Hell’s Kitchen to at least get back past 1.0 in viewers. No word whether they’ll burn off the remaining seven episodes over a couple of weekends or hold for non ratings period. Doesn’t matter as so few remaining viewers anyway. Not surprised. How the heck did this ever get greenlit for 10 episodes without a pilot and how did Fox agree to have Tennant parachuted into the lead without an audition or checking… Read more »

Word from who? What are the three-day ratings or do they count for nothing?
Love this show please don’t cancel it
Definitely dump. Pale copy of Broadchurch. Main characters are totally unlikable, pace is way too slow, actors are wooden for most part, Tennant’s accent is terrible and nonchemistry with Anna Gunn – dunno maybe they didn’t get on or something. There is a huge void in the middle of the show where Broadchurch had heart. Miss Olivia Colman and original British cast. Tennant was only so so in Broadchurch but out of his depth in this mess. Fox would be crazy to let this slide to even more embarrasing ratings. Huge disappointment for me. Not bothering to watch any more.… Read more »
Seems to me the only people who don’t like it are people who saw Broadchurch and re predisposed not to like it. I don’t dislike it but Broadchurch definitely was better. The pace of Gracepoint is off, I think due to the shorter running time. They aren’t taking the time to develop character depth. They are rushing from plot point to plot point, something I thought they wouldn’t have to do with the extra episodes, but they are sticking to the BC episodic breaks. Tennant was fantastic in Broadchurch, His performance was subtle and largely in his facial expression and… Read more »
I think u need to keep the show because there nothing like it on tv I saw the episodes on pbs an loved it so great to see what happens even if I know the killer
Happened to tune in 10/16. Never heard of it – was surprised by it and how I was immediately drawn in by it. It should definitely finish the story it’s telling now and if they can come up w/another mystery as good they should continue it as a series. It’s better than anything else on that day and time on network tv.
Gracepoint is Excellant! Keep it! I want to watch the entire mystery series and I would be very dissapointed if it is taken off the air. It is nice to see something new with many twists!!!
My husband and I LOVE this show! We can’t wait to see it when it comes on, on Thursday nights. We discuss each episode, and make guesses about who is the murderer. After each episode I write a synopsis, so we don’t forget anything. I’ve shared the synopses with several friends, and they are watching it, too.
The only reason more guys aren’t watching is Gracepoint is that it’s football season. That is a lot of competition for any show. KEEP THE SHOW ON!
Let it play out. It is just really unfolding. There are so many interesting characters awaiting to see how they develop
Keep it…intrigueing, good acting…will atract viewers through catch up replays…Like me
Keep it – I’m hooked!!!!! Very dark – have no clue who the killer is – old lady? priest? mom? little friend?
Dump it. It is a bad “American” remake of a BBC AMERICA series.
Keep it… love trying to figure out who done it…
