Last month, we reported that creator Alex Hirsch had decided to end Gravity Falls. Now, Variety reports that the final episode of Disney XD’s animated series will air on February 15th.
The one-hour finale, “Weirdmageddon Part 3: Take Back the Falls,” will feature the last adventure for twins Mabel (Kristen Schaal) and Dipper Pines (Jason Ritter). It will follow up from the previous episode, “Weirdmageddon Part 2: Escape From Reality,” which aired on November 23rd.
And while Hirsch decided to end the show himself (Disney XD did not cancel it), he has said he wouldn’t be against opening up new chapters for some of the characters in the future:
On what’s next for Gravity Falls:
I know that there will be many fans who will be sad to see the Pines family go, but just because I’ve finished the story I wanted to tell doesn’t necessarily mean we will never see Dipper, Mabel, & Stan again. It means that this chapter is closed, and that I, at least for now, am personally done telling their story.
I want to thank Disney, my amazing cast and crew, and most of all our fans for taking this unforgettable road trip with me through the redwoods into a place called Gravity Falls. I look forward to seeing what adventure we go on next.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Gravity Falls? Will you tune in for the final episode?
I’m am a fan, but I was wondering why the Alex Hirsch is not extending the show any further. His explanations sounds reasonable but “the thank you and appreciation to Disney” sound as if there was a difference in creativity there. We’ll probably never know.
On a different note as far as the ending is concern, I suspect that more than likely the twins will go back to California and the Mystery Shake will go back to its original owner. I’m guessing of course, but if that’s the ending, well; BORING.
Yes I’m a fan of Gravity Falls and I hope that the Alex Hirsch will continue the story of Dipper, Mable, Zeus, Stan, Great Uncle Ford and Windy. Pretty please give more fantastic stories of Gravity Falls 🙂
