Guardians of the Galaxy fans can rest easy. The gang of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot will be back for a second season of the animated series, Disney XD announced today.
The announcement arrives only a few weeks after the series premiere on September 26. So far, the show’s only aired three episodes, but ratings have been steadily increasing since its debut.
From Dan Buckley, Marvel’s President—TV, Publishing & Brand Management:
We are thrilled at the positive response to ‘Guardians’ from fans of all ages, and we are looking forward to bringing them more adventures with these dynamic characters. There are so many possibilities with the Guardians franchise, and season two will take viewers even deeper into this rich universe.”
According to the press release, the second series will see the Guardians team up with other superhero mega team, The Avengers, against the malicious alien mad scientist, The High Evolutionary!
The second season will premiere in 2017.
What do you think? Do you watch Guardians of the Galaxy? Does it compare well with the film?
Marvel and Disney have done a decent job with the animated version of the story. My only complaint is the voice characterization for Star Lord that makes him sound like an early teenager. I’m guessing that the target audience, like the Ultimate Spider-Man animation, is targeting kids but where Peter Parker is basically a kid (high school age?) Star Lord is a bit older. Nothing against the voice talent doing Star Lord but while he should come off as being irreverent, cocky, self-amusing, etc., he shouldn’t have to sound like he’s 13 years old doing it.
