The ratings for last night’s debut of Hannibal are in. Will the new NBC TV show be a big hit — or a big flop (like Do No Harm) and be quickly cancelled by the network? Well…
Per the fast affiliate ratings, the first episode of Hannibal attracted a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.31 million total viewers.
NBC reminds us that the show built on lead-in Go On by 45% (1.6 vs a 1.1 in the demo) and that it’s the best performance they’ve had in that timeslot in over a year (excluding live news and sports).
Unfortunately, this can hardly be considered a winning performance. Hannibal is in a distant third for its timeslot. Compared to the season averages of NBC’s others shows, it’s ranking just above The New Normal (a show that will likely be cancelled) and most shows drop at least 15% in their second week.
So, while Hannibal isn’t an out-of-the-gate failure, this was hardly a great start. As always, the show’s fate will be decided by how well it does in the coming weeks.
What do you think? Does Hannibal have a chance at survival or is it already doomed? Did you watch? Are you going to watch again?
I have been looking forward to the return of the Hannibal series’ return this fall. I will be very disappointed if this show is cancelled.
I feel it is one of the better series’ show that I have seen in a very long time.
It is one of the best shows I have in a long time. I dont watch alot of tv and yes the pilot wasn’t 100% clear (in the 1st 20minutes) where the pieces fitted in but they do now, and I cant wait to see the next show each week
KIWI
I have watched it ,but find it very hard to follow, might watch again but totally wouldnt miss it.
FINALLY, SOMETHING WORTH WATCHING AT 10 PM.
I CAN CATCH THE NEWS ANYWHERE, BUT THIS WAS WORTH
STAYING UP FOR.
CAN’T WAIT FOR THURSDAY NOW!!!
it’s a good show but it has a horrible time slot i’m not surprised the numbers aren’t higher, as long as it’s not cancelled because of that, because obviously something has to go in that time slot.
I would rather watch “The new Normal” than “Hannibal” which is more a movie topic than a show…
Great Show but I had to watch the pilot a second time to appreciate it. At first I was put off because it lacked the whimsy of other Brian Fuller shows like Pushing Daises, Dead Like Me and Mocking Bird Lane. This is a very dark and serious show, it is similar in tone to the following, but the following quickly became silly and extremely over the top. I fear that this will not find an audience on Network TV, it would’ve been a great replacement to Dexter on showtime. It is not broad or formulaic enough for the typical… Read more »
I rather watch Deception instead this show that promotes violence…I am tired of NBC cancelling shows and not letting an audience grow. Hannibal too much promotion about being dark drama yet there is enough of those shows on TV..Hannibal is knockoff to The Following which both took cues from Walking Dead show.
It’s preety funny how wrong you are. the walking dead is about zombies..the following is about a cult of serial killers
It took a while to get going and wasn’t entirely clear what was going on at first but when it hit its stride it was okay. Not great, just okay. Mads Mikklesen gave an interesting new take on Hannibal Lecter and I liked his new approach on an iconic character. More of Hannibal, less of Hugh Dancy’s character.
Will it survive? I doubt it very much. Will I keep watching? Sure, for now.
No Hopkins, no deal.
Horribly disappointing show. Contrived, stupid dialogue, ridiculous gimmicks, and one of the most annoying first 15 minutes of a series pilot I have ever seen. How did this ever make it to the screen? OMG!!!!
TOO SERIOUS FOR THE USUAL CEREAL LOVERS AND COMEDY ONLY WATCHERS.
TAKES A THINKING AUDIENCE -JUST HOPE NBC GIVES IT A CHANCE.
