CBS’ ratings-challenged murder mystery series has been put on hiatus for next weekend. The network is replacing Harper’s Island with a rerun of the popular Mentalist series.
For now, it looks like Island will return the following Saturday night on May 23rd in its (now) regular timeslot. Could this be a bad omen that CBS won’t end up airing all of the remaining eight episodes? Possibly. The show’s first Saturday outing attracted just 4.65 million viewers and a 1.0/3 rating share of the 18-49 demographic. That’s about what the network usually gets for its Saturday night repeats. One would hope that the network would just go ahead and let the season finish.
Will the show be back next year with another mystery? Almost certainly not.
Note: We got our dates mixed up and this post originally indicated that tonight’s episode would be missing. It’s been updated to reflect the correct dates. Sorry for the confusion.

I LOVE THIS SHOW. I DID NOT KNOW IT WAS MOVED TO SAT NIGHT EITHER. I ONLY WAS A COUPLE OF SHOWS ON TV BECAUSE MOST OF THEM ARE TOO STUPID TO WATCH. I SURE WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE END.
My friends and I LOVE harpers island! We have harpers island parties to watch every new episode and though I was extremely disappointed that it got bumped to Saturdays I was at least relieved CBS promised to finish airing the season. If they back out on their promise I swear I am DONE with CBS for good! I know so many people who love this show and will be crushed if we don’t get to see the rest of the season.
I hope that H.I. isn’t canceled either. I really do like te show and I don’t think that it was given a fair chance. I hope that it won’t get canceled before the show has a chance to finish the season.
This is why I have stopped watching all commercial television. Now I wait for a series to end, see if it was done right then buy it on DVD. I don’t waste my time anymore on a world obsessed with Singing and Dancing drivel.
I, too am sick & tired of networks cancellling shows without an ending. I LOVE this show, & think it should be put back on Thursday nights. So what if it doesn’t have great ratings! What about all the other p eople who are watching it.? We want an ending! We want to know who the killer is, you jerks!
Yet another reason not the start watching any programs on CBS, or ABC/NBC for that matter. The only shows that seem to survive on any network are the moronic reality shows.
I’m not sure I will watch anymore series on CBS if this show is dropped.
Will you please finish the whole series before cancellation? I would like to see who is the killer before axing it off the air. I don’t think this series was given a chance. I think it should only air during the summer season while all the other series are on hiatus or even better yet move it to a cable network like TBS, TNT or how about Lifetime? Just a suggestion but please air the rest of the episodes so the fans can get closure.
I’m really starting to hate this network. Why would they stop showing a show half way through and not let the viewers know how it ends. There is never anything good on Sat nights,it has to be one of the worst for watching tv.Why don’t they just leave it on Thursdays. Not all shows can get excellent ratings.I don’t know about anyone else but I can only watch one program at a time.
Nightmare Of FOX’s “REUNION” again ?
Finish the series I am hooked.
Damn. I thought CBS promised to air all 13 episodes. I would have never started watching if I thought CBS wouldn’t give us the resolution to the mystery.
This is exactly why no one is watching shows like this. Why would you start investing time in a mystery storyline when you’re nearly sure it will just be canceled before you get to see how it plays out?
Well I can’t stand the show but my wife loves it. She had no idea it had moved to Saturday, so that could help explain why the ratings dropped. The networks need to give a show more than 2 weeks to try and survive.
Please do not cancel Harper’s Island. My family and I love this new show! Give this show a chance to atleast finish this years episodes.
