Last week, NBC unveiled their newest legal drama series, Harry’s Law. Interestingly, this isn’t a new Law & Order spin-off but rather the brainchild of David E. Kelley who created shows like ABC’s Boston Legal. He also worked on NBC’s popular LA Law many years ago. Will this legal series last as long as those or be quickly cancelled instead?
Harry’s Law revolves around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer. She’s abruptly fired from her blue chip law firm, forcing her to search for a fresh start. Harry finds it when she meets Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), a college student who desperately needs her help and ends up working for her. A young legal hotshot named Adam Branch (Nate Corddry) accidentally hits her and gives up his corporate job to join the team. With the help of Harry’s shoe-obsessed assistant, Jenna (Brittany Snow), they open for business as Harriet’s Law and Fine Shoes.
The TV series debuted last Monday and it attracted an okay 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.07 million viewers. It ranked in second place for the timeslot though probably would have been third if Castle had not been a repeat. Though that’s not a great debut, it’s a 47% improvement over Chase’s last original episode in the same timeslot. That’s very positive for NBC.

Last night’s episode of Harry’s Law drew a 2.1 in the demo and 10.43 million viewers. That’s a loss of about 5% in the demo from the premiere but still positive since most shows lose between 10 and 15% of their viewership in week two. Most people who watched last week obviously liked it and returned and perhaps even told a friend or two.
After just two airings, Harry’s Law ranks in sixth place on the list of NBC’s most-watched scripted programs, just below 30 Rock. That’s very positive, especially considering NBC’s string of bad luck in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. If the series can sustain or even build on these early numbers, it looks certain that NBC will renew it for season two.
But, what do you think? Do you like Harry’s Law? Do you think NBC should keep it going or just cancel it? What do you like or dislike about the new series?

Give this show more time before deciding to pull the plug. As always, Kathy Bates give a great performance, along with the rest of the cast. And smart writing helps make this show worthy of more time.
I love it a quirky sense of humor is a good distraction from the very real issues i still watch reruns of boston for the same reason sometimes gahhh no more law & order clones
You need to get rid of the “Hokey” music. All the scenes with Kathy Bates are great, better tighten up the rest of the cast.
Amazing show! Great cast and is hilarious!!
STOP THE POLITICAL BIAS OR CANCEL THE SHOW! I ditto Susan’s remarks. This show insults and ridicules roughly 60% of the political spectrum..maybe more since DEK’s political views would be shared with Nancy Pelosi’s 13% approval rate. I loved Boston Legal but in the end it was just too much of a far left winged grand standing agenda which implied that any who opposed this Keith Olbermann viewpoint had to be zany crazy people. ….and here it is again!! Three of us in this household had looked forward to seeing this show. Only one will watch it in the future.… Read more »
For those that think the show is exploring these great political ideas, just keep in mind that what you’re getting is DEK’s left-wing opinion. Boston Legal probably would have lasted another year or two if he hadn’t decided to insult everyone who disagrees with his political stance on a weekly basis. In a time where viewers are leaving the regular networks, why insult–statistically–60% of your potential audience? If the only drama he can create is one in which he has to go after the other side, then his imagination isn’t that great.
Love it! Love Kathy Bates! Keep it! Keep it! Keep it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely a new favorite of mine. Kathy Bates is an amazing actress.
I love Kathy Bates and the show was just great until it started to send a political message. I wont watch entertainment shows with embedded political lessons no matter who is in it or how good the story. It’s just not why I watch TV.
This is the best show on TV. It examines heavy social problems that to to many Americans don’t want to think about and should, while sweetening the dose of reality with the sugar of humor, and compassion. I’m telling everyone I know to watch it.
Won’t be watching it again. You were right I watched the first episode, said to myself I like it and Kathy Bates. But was a little too much for me in the catergory of polotics. So I watched it again to see if that was just an episode that just happened to be that way, and low and behold the second episode was worst.
A totally un-realistic and stupid show!!!!!!!!!!
We are BIG fans of the new show; It is refreshing to view Political and Social topics of our day, that so divide us, and this shows lays it right out there for the viewers to pretend you are the juror and how you would vote faced with the question the show presents to us…keep up the good entertainment…
I like the show – it is different!
I LOVE this show. It is unique, creative and filled with interesting and charismatic people. A shoe store for a law office! How innovative is that! I love Kathy Bates and the actors surrounding her are great. Please dont cancel this show.
