A couple months ago, NBC premiered a new legal TV series from David E. Kelley called Harry’s Law. The series started out decently in the ratings but has fallen quite a bit since then. Tonight is the season finale. Will it be back for season two or end up cancelled?
Harry’s Law revolves around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a cranky former patent lawyer. She’s abruptly fired from a big firm, forcing Harry to search for a fresh start. She finds it when she meets Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), a college student who desperately needs her help and ends up working for her. A young legal hotshot named Adam Branch (Nate Corddry) accidentally hits Harry and gives up his corporate job to join the team. With the help of Harry’s footwear-obsessed assistant, Jenna (Brittany Snow), they open for business as Harriet’s Law and Fine Shoes.
The NBC series debuted in January with a 2.2 rating in the prized 18-49 demographic and 11.07 million viewers. That was an improvement of nearly 50% in the demo when compared to the last original episode of Chase, the previous timeslot occupant and NBC has had a hard time filling that spot for quite some time. The second episode only came down 5% to a 2.1 rating and 10.43 million. Week three held steady. It was looking like NBC had a hit — or as close as the network seems to get these days.
Then, the fourth installment took a big tumble, dropping 19% to a 1.7 demo rating and 9.22 million. It stayed at that level for a couple weeks, popped up to a 1.8 rating, and has most recently been holding steady at a 1.6 rating. That’s pretty close to what Chase had been doing and that’s all but cancelled.
Tonight marks the twelfth and final episode of the season and Harry’s Law is averaging a 1.8 rating and 9.54 million viewers. It’s the 10th highest rated scripted series on the network, tied with Chuck. On the other big networks, the series would certainly doomed but NBC has lots of ratings problems.
In truth, based on the demo numbers alone, NBC shouldn’t bring back this series for a second season. However, though it ranks towards the bottom of the demo rankings, it’s the most-watched TV show on the network. Though that doesn’t count for much, considering the state of NBC, it may be enough to get Harry’s Law a renewal.
On the other hand, with David E. Kelley likely having another series on NBC next season — the new Wonder Woman — network execs might prefer that he focus on that one and let Harry’s Law go. If they don’t like the Wonder Woman pilot, that may be enough to save Kathy Bates and company.
NBC probably won’t reveal the fate of Harry’s Law until the advertiser upfronts on May 16th. We’ll keep you posted.
What do you think? Should Harry’s Law be renewed or cancelled? If it does comes back, how would you suggest they change it to attract more viewers?

Please continue this show. It is great. Everyone in our family enjoys it so much.
The comedy and the suspense makes it great for all ages.
I LOVE this show — please renew it — one of the funniest shows on TV!!
Harry’s Law should definitely be renewed. My husband and I have really enjoyed this show. It’s the one show that we watch on this network!
My family and I adore “Harry’s Law” and think it is one of the most brilliant on television. David E. Kelley has outdone himself. It should definitely be renewed for many more seasons.
If the network cancels this show I will no longer watch anything on this network. Period.
I haven’t a clue which website we watch this on. Just know my husband and I both loved this show and looked forward to it , when we could find it. It came on on Mondays and then again on Saturday nites, same subject, we couldn’t figure out what they were trying to do with it. There are so few things worth watching, on T.V., any more. Please bring IT back. It seems any time something worth watching comes on, it disappears. May go back to reading and keep the T.V. shut off.
Please keep the show…At least it was good entertainment..I am sooooo sick of the stupid reality shows about people who over-rate themselves. We are in need of some good TV shows, and with all the channels to choose from these days,it’s a shame there are so few decent shows to continue to watch every week.
Ever since Boston Legal ended, we have been looking for a show that had some meat in the message. Harry’s Law is entertaining and delivers lots of food for thought. Please, please do not cancel this show and leave us with nothing but the hollow, empty reality shows!!
PLEASE don’t cancel Harry’s Law. Good show. Of course, anything with Kathy Bates in it would be. Please keep on. Thank you.
I love the show. Kathy Bates is great as Harry and I would hate to see the show cancelled.
I don’t think Brittany’s charactor would be missed but leave the rest alone.
I’m a Chinese audience, and I really like this show. Simple stories but make a lot of sense. Also, there’re a lot of chinese like this show.
Please keep it.
Please renew HARRY’S LAW! The show creates a very unique unconventional law firm with social ideals. The program themes are serious and compassionate yet, resolved with warm endings. Keep on filming!!!
Is it possible to move the time or day of the show away from 5-0? In Hawaii, they air at opposing time slots. Mahalo nui loa
Please bring this show back. If you don’t, I’ll walk away and slam the door behind me!
My husband and i really like the show. It was well written & the acting was very good. The lesser known actors did their job well. To me, it covers real situations but is not like so many of the other shows that just seem to be about murder. I like Kathy Bates & hope the show comes back next season. We are looking forward to it.
would love to see season 2; great show; superb writing and acting; please, please give this show a 2nd season…it’s got all the elements of current events and fantasy escape all in 1……
This is a great show, and I love any show Kathy Bates is on. She is a fabulous actor, and I also enjoy Chris McDonald and Paul McCrane’s characters, as well. The young kid that plays Malcolm is a doll, and that guy who offers protection is funny and scary at the same time (Damien?). Brittany Snow’s character needs work, and the love lorned young attorney in the office is funny, but not convincing in the pining away category. He and the attorney that broke his heart doesn’t work as a couple on TV, so I don’t really care about… Read more »
This show should be renewed, given another chance to get a bigger audience: it is smart, has interesting actors, and good themes. Romantic interests are add-ons and for the most part, not necessary, or at least, not given as much time as they have been given. It also needs more wit. At times it is too intense. Anyhow, do renew it.
This show should definitely be renewed. It’s witty and appealing to those of us who hold the pocketbooks. Please keep Kathy Bates and her staff afloat.
