A little over a week ago, NBC decided to cancel their new medical drama, Heartbeat. As a result of the cancellation, tonight’s episode is the TV show’s last. Was NBC justified in cancelling the series or should there be season two?
Set at the fictional St. Matthew’s Hospital, Heartbeat follows a cardio-thoracic surgeon, Dr. Alex Panttiere (Melissa George), as she tries to juggle her personal and professional lives. She eagerly fights authority, particularly when it comes to her patients’ health and well-being. The rest of the cast includes Dave Annable, Don Hany, Joshua Leonard, Jamie Kennedy, D.L. Hughley, Shelley Conn, Maya Erskine, and J. Louis Mills.
Heartbeat debuted on March 22nd. It followed an episode of NBC’s highly-rated series The Voice and drew a 1.39 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.30 million viewers.
Heartbeat moved to its regular Wednesday night timeslot the next evening and the ratings saw a dramatic dip, falling to a 0.89 rating with 5.16 million. The numbers have kept dwindling downward. Last week’s penultimate episode drew a 0.67 in the demo with just 3.86 million.
Those kinds of numbers are just too low for NBC to justify renewing the series so the cancellation certainly wasn’t a surprise. The peacock network is already busy promoting their new drama series for the fall. It remains to be seen if they will do any better.
But, what do you think? Did you like the Heartbeat TV show? Was NBC justified in cancelling it or should the network have given the series more time and a second season?
It’s sad they cancelled it so quickly when a huge market was effected by Frontier taking over cable services from Verizon! PLEASE RECONSIDER and give us a second season!!
I was so surprised that Heartbeat was cancelled. Yes, far too quickly by NBC. It had no promo. No one knew it was on. NBC should rethink it or another network should pick it up.
I have absolutely loved every single episode and each and every character….best thing on TV for years I usually hate Hospital drams
First the wonderful Monday Mornings and now Heartbeat. I’m sick of investing time into these programmes only to have them cancelled. Ratings aren’t everything. Viewers deserve some quality programmes and I’m sure this can be compensated by the cheap, nasty reality TV.
This is one of the best new shows from the last year! Please reconsider cancelling this show! I many folks who didn’t get to see it enough to recognize what a great show it is! Premiering a new show on 3/22 makes it difficult on families who are busy with their kids’ activities in the spring. I believe if this show had come on television earlier in the year, it would have had much higher ratings!!
Please bring back season 2 I love this show it’s my Friday night chill out time I’m really upset that it’s been cancelled way to quick
What??? I loved this show i think they should bring it back season 2 see if gets better views … market it better and make it obvious they are changing show times i missed some too but i found it on demand i know several people that would watch it
I loved this program! But unfortunately was not aware it was moved to a new night and time. So I missed the rest of the programs in the following weeks. Please bring it back. Not many decent shows on anymore. Including Mike and Molly being cancelled, another favorite. So sad!
Sad it’s gone I really enjoyed can’t find good show like this bring it back
I JUST got a chance to view this show, which i have marathon watched 7 episodes only to discover it was cancelled at 10????
Geesh…. no giving a series to find an audience… This is why I hate tv… finally get something I like only to have it pulled.
Exactly it’s so stupid 🙁
Give it another chance! I really enjoyed the series!
I really enjoyed this show.Yes, it was cancelled too quickly. Why not try it on another night first. The show has great writing and a very good storyline. If Wednesday doesn’t work, please try it on a different day.
This show was GREAT until they went off on the LGBT tangent. Every episode was gay this, trans that. Stop trying to push an agenda and just let the characters WORK. The leads were great actors and the writing was off the charts good. Keep the political messaging out and you’ll have a winner.
This show was absolutely amazing, I’m so disappointed it got cancelled. I binge-watched the first season because I just wanted more, than came to find out it wasn’t even getting a second season. It was far too short-lived and probably would’ve picked up if there has just been more time. I truly hope that NBC reconsiders this decision.
Give it another chance I really loved it
