TV Land has decided to end their signature original sitcom Hot in Cleveland. The current sixth season will be the end for the comedy.
Hot in Cleveland continues to follow the lives of three middle-age ladies from Los Angeles — writer Melanie Moretti (Valerie Bertinelli), beautician Joy Scoggs (Jane Leeves), and actress Victoria Chase (Wendie Malick). When their flight to Paris makes an emergency landing in Cleveland, Ohio, they discover a community that’s less shallow and youth-obsessed. They move there and lease a home with a sassy caretaker, Elka Ostrovsky (Betty White).
The ratings for Hot in Cleveland have come way down over the years. The first season averaged more than three million viewers each week. The fifth season drew about 950,000 viewers and the first few episodes of the current sixth season have averaged 710,000.
Of the decision, TV Land president Larry W. Jones said, “It’s been an honor to work with Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and the incomparable Betty White as well as our executive producers Suzanne Martin, Todd Milliner, Sean Hayes and the rest of our exceptional writers, production team and crew. The passion and talent they brought to the set each and every week over the past five years has put TV Land on the map as a network dedicated to quality original programming. We will continue to celebrate the show and are looking forward to a fantastic series finale.”
On the positive side, there will be 128 episodes by the end, plenty of episodes to keep Hot in Cleveland airing in syndication for years to come.
What do you think? Are you sorry that there won’t be a seventh season of Hot in Cleveland or, is it ending at a good time?
Great, another good live-action TV show is retiring while evil animated crap like “South Park” gets to continue on. 🙁
Wish Betty White was staying around. The show was good and always made me laugh. Sorry to see it go.
This is the only thing I watch on TV Land. Without Hot in Cleveland, it’s toast!
This “target demographic” Pees me off. I am 72. We older people enjoy television and we are still consumers of goods advertised on TV. Give us a chance to watch what we enjoy. So we are not spring chickens any more. A great majority of us are still working to take care of our children and grandchildren. Give us a moment of relaxation.
I’m so upset to see this show end it was truly one of the best shows. I think they should keep it going until Betty White doesn’t want to do the show anymore
I am very sorry this show is ending, it has been such a joy to watch these funny ladies. I am so thankful Betty White was able to give us these last six years, and I hope she will continue to grace us with her comic genius. I will keep watching the reruns, this show is classic!
Show was enjoyable. Betty White God Bless will be turning 94. She has made the right decision to give notice. The show would be dull without here.
Have had the pleasure of being in the studio audience about a dozen times…including the “live” broadcast last March. Hope to be in the audience for the finale!
I have heard that the actresses, Betty White in particular, wanted to pursue other projects. I am sad to see it go, but do hope that they are able to give a proper finale sendoff to such a beloved show. I would think only a movie could do true justice to it. And it had better not include “killing off” Elsa.
Please don’t cancel Hot In Cleveland I think it’s such a great and funny show! I love it!
No don’t cancel the series my week will not be complete
so sad – a great sitcom that made me remember the sitcoms from the 80’s & 90’s which were so much better than some of the ones on the air today, in my opinion. It was funny, easy to relate to and had some of the best guest stars that only enhanced an amazing cast.
I’m sad to hear that the series is ending. Hopefully Jane, Wendie and Valerie will continue to entertain us. Hopefully Betty will not be retiring. Maybe she’ll be like Mary Tyler Moore and be semi-retired but still do some public appearances.
Im sad its ending love the show but if betty white can’t do it anymore than its a good decision.
I just read a few days ago the Betty White put her notice in because it was becoming too tough on her physically at her age. So I guess that kind of runs hand in hand
Where did you read that??
I’m not positive but I think it was USA Today. After her third dizzy spell in a few weeks she told them it would have to be her last season because it was just getting too hard on her. After all she is in her 90’s. I never watched the show, but you have to hand it to her for still performing in her 90’s. Usually by their 90’s you see them maybe as walk on’s at best if at all
