You don’t have to imagine the future of Imaginary Mary any longer. ABC has cancelled the freshman TV series so there won’t be a second season.
The sitcom centers on fiercely independent single career woman named Alice (Jenna Elfman), who falls head over heels for Ben (Stephen Schneider), a divorced father of three. Meeting Ben’s kids is so stressful that the very idea triggers the reappearance of her imaginary childhood friend, Mary (voiced by Rachel Dratch). The cast also includes Nicholas Coombe, Matreya Scarrwener, and Erica Tremblay.
There were early signs of trouble for Imaginary Mary. Before the show even premiered, ABC cut its season one episode order down from 13 to nine. Then, the series debuted in March to a mediocre rating of 1.37 in the 18-49 demo and 5.39 million viewers. Since then, the ratings have slipped much further. Currently, season one is averaging a 0.92 rating in the 18-49 demo and 3.34 million viewers
What do you think? Have you seen Imaginary Mary? Do you think ABC should’ve given the series more time and a second chance?
Yes, I believe they should have a given Imaginary Mary more time. I didn’t even know about the show till after it was cancelled, later that year. I loved it. It was family friendly, interesting, funny, and amusing.
I am highly disappointed the show has been canceled. It seems like any shows that does not have violence these days does not last. That’s a sad thing to say about our society. Our family loves the show and the fact that the plot was original. It’s also very rare that Jenna appear in a show. WE MISS YOU JENNA ELFMAN!! Mary was hilarious!!
