Tonight, USA Network aired the series finale of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Many who work on the TV show hope that’s not necessarily true.
Last Summer, it was rumored that the cop drama might be cancelled following a season of lackluster ratings. USA instead opted to bring Criminal Intent back for a 10th and final season of eight episodes. To cap the show’s run, it was also announced that Kathryn Erbe and Vincent D’Onofrio, who left abruptly at the start of season nine, would return.
Though USA has been calling season 10 the end of Criminal Intent, we learned in May that executive producer Dick Wolf wasn’t throwing in the towel just yet. He told reporters that he hoped, “enough fans will come out so the powers that be reconsider their decision.” Later, executive producer Chris Brancato noted that, “Yeah, I think if viewers are enthused about Vincent and Katie coming back I don’t see why it has to be the final season.” The ratings have shown improvement.
Erbe is also hopeful that tonight won’t be the end and would be to season 11. She recently told TV Guide, “I know that I would be there in a heartbeat. I’m fairly positive that Vincent [D’Onofrio] feels the same way. Everyone was really hoping that, in the 11th hour, we’d get some word… Whether the fans are able to muscle us back or not, who knows. They have amazing power.”
Regardless of what happens, Erbe is grateful for the chance to return to the series. She said, “I just know that these eight episodes were like a gift. To be able to come back and have closure with the crew and the cast and everyone… If that happens again, fantastic. It would just be like icing on the cake.”
If the series doesn’t come back, the actress feels that viewers will like this farewell to Goren and Eames better than their departure in 2010. Erbe notes, “I know we set out to make it satisfying… The one thing I know you’re going to see is that Goren and Eames are on much better, more solid ground. Healthier, happier and in good shape.”
If she never gets to play the role again, Erbe imagines that her character would continue solving cases with Goren and just continue to live her life.
What do you think? Would you like to see Law & Order: Criminal Intent continue?

Stay Please………. it’s one of the few entertaining quality shows on TV!
My wife and I are die-hard Law and Order fans and by far “CI” is by far our favorite, especially when “Goren and Eames” were the staring characters. We were always disappointed when an episode aired with other characters but we watched anyway. If I had to pick a least favorite of the Law & Orders it would be “SVU” but we have watched most, if not all, of them also. I was disappointed when Low and Order (NY) was canceled, although I think that it was casting that killed it, and I am extremely disappointed that the best of… Read more »
I hope it will continue. I miss the original and I will miss criminal intent. All of the law and order franchises have been shows I NEVER miss! I hope to watch criminal intent next season.
Bring them back!!!!! Please!
Please bring them back to NBC they are the greatest . Criminal Intent is what the shows about. The Intent of the criminal getting away with the crime.
Watching Bobby at work is something worth watching. He’s like a today Columbo and she waits for his que to completely agree. They are awesome.
Please do NOT cancel Law & Order Criminal. Please bring it back for another season, or two, or three….with Detectives Goren and Eames.
I just watched the finale again and am in tears that I won’t get to enjoy more of this “story”. I especially liked Goren’s therapy sessions. It feels like a middle – not an end. Please, please, please do an 11th season.
~Devoted fan.
I truly enjoyed watching Goren & Eames on this wonderful show. They have a very special chemistry. Please do not end it now. The fans need more information about Goren’s progress through therapy. Additionally, will he ever tell his partner that he loves, trusts, and respects her. There is plenty of crime in the news everyday to turn into story plots. Please Mr. Wolf, continue the show and urge the powers that be to only use the original detectives in the storyline. Thanks.
Please leave it on.Eams & Goren rock!
this is as good a show as any of the Dick Wolf shows. It should continue,i”ll miss it.
please let this show continue–I really like the chemistry between Goren and Eames, and Bobby’s ability to get into the mind of his adversaries is…compelling, to say the least. Hope to see more of L&O CI.
YES! Now that I’ve had our buddies back for 8 weeks it makes me want to keep seeing them every week (or at least every tv season). Best show on tv, period.
You gotta bring these guys back and get some more devious criminals
I stopped watching when Goren and Eames were not in it any more, I was disgusted. I was very happy to hear of their return, Vincent D’Onofrio is such an amazing presence and displays such a high standard of acting, they were lucky to get him for a show like this… he totally makes the show the best of the franchise by far… Kathryn Erbe is a great foil for him. Love it!
