Sometimes the truth hurts — especially when it comes to television ratings. After three seasons, FOX has cancelled Lie to Me.
Starring Tim Roth, Lie to Me revolves around Cal Lightman and members of The Lightman Group. They’re a team of specialists who help law enforcement agencies uncover the truth by using applied psychology. Others in the cast include Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Monica Raymund, Hayley McFarland, and Mekhi Phifer.
Last season, Lie to Me averaged a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.03 million total viewers. That was down from season one and the series found itself on the bubble for renewal. FOX ended up giving the TV series another chance and renewed it for 13 episodes.
Unfortunately, season three didn’t perform nearly as well as season two. It premiered last October to a 2.1 rating in the demo and 5.86 million. Viewership eroded in subsequent weeks and FOX declined to give the show a full season order. Lie to Me then hit a new series low in January, registering a meager 1.5 rating and 5.43 million viewers.

In its final weeks on the air, viewers seemed to rally behind it and Lie to Me had its best ratings of the season — a 2.5 in the demo and 7.67 million.
Though the ratings had come way down, FOX execs claimed that they still valued the TV series and saw it as a solid utility player. Showrunner Alex Cary said, “Fox has been very clear with us — they know what the show is, they know what it can do. [The ratings bump] shows that people will come watch the show.”
Now, after three seasons on the air, the series is over. FOX has officially cancelled Lie to Me after 48 episodes. All of the installments have aired. Though there are too few episodes for a traditional syndication package, the first two seasons have already been released on DVD.
What do you think? Should Lie to Me have been renewed for season four?

okay, maybe I’m a bit late, but I just finished watching season 3. I really love the series, because I study psychology, so it helps me to understand more about psychology things. And also I ship Cal and Gillian, I want to see them together (really, they’re the cutest couple).
Sorry for my poor English 🙂
yah definatly I love this show and just because people couldn’t stay up till 9 to watch a show that was just starting out doesnt mean they should have canceled it. this is the same with the Tv series Psych. I dont know who runs the show or who decided it should be cancled but that show was a great one and It was a nice break from the regular crime shows you see today where is season nine? come on guys.
Netflix should take over the series please bring it back
I think that Netflix should take this series over. I know they can keep this alive. Like some of the others, I did not know that this existed, I really enjoyed it. I DON’T watch TV because I hate the “stupid and insulting” commercials and besides, who wants to wait for the next episode when you can watch as many as you want on Netflix. When you have to wait for a few days or a week to watch the next episode, yes, you loose interest. Let Netflix take it over…………….
Totally agree!
I agree!
I loved the series, but I think the writers began a twist against the man characters. Tim Roth’s character turned more visious and unprofessional, the female main character became too vulnerable and weak. They should’ve kept the drama outside of the main characters and kept them in total control and powerful as they were in the first episodes.
Lie to me needs to return but perhaps to another channel a&e would be perfect !!
As usual, just when people watch a show and become involved they pull the plug. It’s an engaging show. People want these type of programmes ones they can emerge into. And as others say with values they can and want to relate to .. But obviously money means more than sticking with a show which grows on people and has positive effects on people and whole communities. Each time a company has a chance to make a difference they balk.
Lie to me was an addictive and fabulous series. Educational and thought provoking and the theme music was spot on. Tim Roth’s flamboyant style and fearsome portrayal was second to none and took me back to his portrayal of the villain in Rob Roy which was equally brilliant.
For gods sake lets have more of this.
To think, It is 2015, The show has been officially cancelled for 4 years and people still crave it. Stop keeping it in Hiatus and reveal a Season 4. This is easily one of the best crime series to be created in a long time, as it delved into something we weren’t used to. It needs a re-opening, fans will come screaming back for more, Guaranteed.
It figures that you guys take away something that is family-oriented (father-daughter dynamic was sweet, funny and wonderful!) It was a good series and I believe I actually learn things. It made me more aware when I spoke with people, more focused and aware in groups. Noooooo….sex, scandal and scary stuff you keep(and I’m still trying to understand a show about dead people eating live people who become dead people.)
Lie To Me is easily one of the best series I have ever seen, I’d even put it up with The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. It was very entertaining and I found myself wanting to watch it more and more. One of the reasons I feel that it didn’t do nearly as well as hoped is advertising the show, up until my brother showed me the series roughly 1 month ago on Netflix I had no idea it existed. While I highly doubt they will bring the show back, they truly should or they should sell the rights… Read more »
