Sometimes the truth hurts — especially when it comes to television ratings. After three seasons, FOX has cancelled Lie to Me.
Starring Tim Roth, Lie to Me revolves around Cal Lightman and members of The Lightman Group. They’re a team of specialists who help law enforcement agencies uncover the truth by using applied psychology. Others in the cast include Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Monica Raymund, Hayley McFarland, and Mekhi Phifer.
Last season, Lie to Me averaged a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.03 million total viewers. That was down from season one and the series found itself on the bubble for renewal. FOX ended up giving the TV series another chance and renewed it for 13 episodes.
Unfortunately, season three didn’t perform nearly as well as season two. It premiered last October to a 2.1 rating in the demo and 5.86 million. Viewership eroded in subsequent weeks and FOX declined to give the show a full season order. Lie to Me then hit a new series low in January, registering a meager 1.5 rating and 5.43 million viewers.

In its final weeks on the air, viewers seemed to rally behind it and Lie to Me had its best ratings of the season — a 2.5 in the demo and 7.67 million.
Though the ratings had come way down, FOX execs claimed that they still valued the TV series and saw it as a solid utility player. Showrunner Alex Cary said, “Fox has been very clear with us — they know what the show is, they know what it can do. [The ratings bump] shows that people will come watch the show.”
Now, after three seasons on the air, the series is over. FOX has officially cancelled Lie to Me after 48 episodes. All of the installments have aired. Though there are too few episodes for a traditional syndication package, the first two seasons have already been released on DVD.
What do you think? Should Lie to Me have been renewed for season four?

There is no reason that an interesting show like this should have been cancelled when there are so many other shows that are all about the same things. The idea is to original to cancel.
What a fantastic programme I cannot get enough of it. Fox please get the fourth series on again
Just finished watching season 3 on Netflix… i am so bummed to find out that there isnt a season 4… I THINK NETFLIX SHOULD TAKE OVER since fox doesnt want to renew a season… Cmon Netflix make it happen and get a season 4 going… i mean u guys had orange is the new black, dont get me wrong i like orange, but lie to me is a much better show!
Renew Lie to me for S4
yes, I love the Lie to me series and I am hoping for more
The last episode of the third and final season ends with Cal not knowing why he’s waiting when he knows that he is really in love with Gillian. OMG, how cruel to just end it on that cliff hanger. Come on: what happens next!
It needs a season four. Only for the reason of Callion
Please don’t tell me “Callion” is a thing. This show should not be cheapened by trashy name mashups.
Please make a season 4, show is awesome.
I’m Black and I Love dis show! I already smell bs a mile away and dis show just help me Perfect my detection. So Please make another season, PLEASE.
Your race has absolutely no correlation to whether or not you like a show …
Just found this on Netflix – such a different show – Tim Roth excellent in it – sat and watched all 3 seasons in 2 days and thoroughly enjoyed it .. very disappointed that there were no more made .. 🙁
I definitely think there should’ve been a season four The first couple episodes of the first season was a little hard to get into but throughout the rest of the season it truly is a great TV show very disappointed in the fact that it was canceled
Was hooked! Watched it all in 3 days on netflix and wanted more!
Hey
I truly believe ‘Lie to me’ should not have been cancelled. It was different to other shows out there and I was truly hooked. Hated that it has finished and sad i have watched them all and no more to watch.
It seems to me that the most thoughtful, intellectual shows always get cut. Says more about the network than the viewers.
Wrong, it definitely says more about the viewers than the network. The network is smart enough to know the quality of a show. It’s the average viewers that have no clue when it comes to quality. If it’s not spelled out for them, then it’s bad because they can’t understand it. There just aren’t enough viewers like us that get the show and therefore the ratings are not what the network wants and needs to stay competitive.
Please bring the show back. Please
I would have to agree with what each and every one how has left a comment I loved the show and I think that it would be wonderful to have seen the forth season Tim Roth aka Dr. Cal Lightman was a great actor he reminds me of what I would do If my daughter started dating boy’s but I don’t think I would be as nice but it was great I enjoyed watching all three season’s and i would of loved to have seen the forth one but I think fox made the wrong choose at taking season four… Read more »
