Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

I adore Lie To Me! If it were to end, I would be very upset with FOX. How can people not like it? It is very similar to CSI! It just needs more advertisements to get more of an audience interested.
I love Lie To Me…well acted and excellent drama!
Lie To me is a great show.Tim Roth and the rest of the cast are great!
Please don’t cancel LIE to ME. At least this show holds your interest. Most of the shows this season are very boring and unrealistic. I believe in Lie detection; it is a true phenomenon. Give the show some time; I’m sure it won’t disappoint the viewing audience. Cal Lightman is the “Man”.
I absolutely love “Lie To Me” and miss it very much. It is so much better than most programs. I do not want to see it cancelled. I don’t care where they put just as long as I can watch it.
I really like the show. I normally go to bed shortly after 8 o’clock when my kids go to bed, but on Monday nights I always stay up to watch House and then Lie To Me. I just go to work VERY sleepy the next day. 🙂 I don’t watch T.V. any other nights of the week, but I always make sure I see Lie To Me!!!
I’m also a fan of the show and will be disappointed if it’s canceled so soon. It feels like a show directed toward an adult audience, as does House – I’m surprised “Lie to Me” is not doing well in it’s current time slot; House and 24 have little in common.
I would prefer to see it moved to another night rather than have it postponed until May; a delay that long is a kiss of death.
Please bring Lie to Me back, even if you have to have it on another night. It’s a great show, very interesting.
Fox may be canceling Lie to Me? Is Fox going as insane NBC? Does this great show present too little immorality, too little childish incipient vapid paranormal crap for their viewers? Does it draw too little blood? Is vapid unreal reality, and soul draining vapid “rapping” with the stars Fox’s oppinion of better TV? How many seasons have various failing Networks dragged the tedious melancolly madness of Dr. House behind them? Personally, the bad evening soap “Lost”, lost me from the get go. Thje rest is history, literally. Fox lives from week to week on ratings that cannot support their… Read more »
I absolutely LOVE Lie To Me, and I would be very angry, not to mention disappointed, if it was canceled.
I love Lie to Me there are only 3 Tv shows I watch all the time House , Lie to Me and Chuck which I tape.
I really like “Lie To Me”. It is refreshing and different. The story lines are good and the interaction between the characters is interesting and offers variety. Please bring it back sooooooon. Without it I no longer watch TV on Monday night.
Thanks,
Marion
I like this show, I would rather see it pushed to another night then see it disappear. I like it’s chances for tuesday/friday as their is nadda so far as ineresting t.v. on those nights.
I really like this show 🙁
I love Lie to Me and would be very upset if the series was ended. Fox doesn’t seem to put good shows like this a chance. It needs to develop a good following and that takes a couple of seasons were it is allowed to mature in a good time spot. Fox cuts things off to soon.
