It’s “lights out” for FX’s new boxing drama series. FX has cancelled Lights Out after one season due to poor ratings.
Lights Out revolves around Patrick ‘Lights’ Leary (Holt McCallany), an aging former heavyweight boxing champion. He struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring. The poor economy and a series of bad investments leave Patrick at a perilous crossroads; battling the urge to return to boxing or reluctantly accepting a job as a brutal and intimidating debt collector. The show also features Catherine McCormack, Pablo Schreiber, and Stacy Keach.
Though some critics applauded the series, not many people watched the premiere in January. It registered just a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.487 million viewers. The second episode dropped to a 0.4 rating and 0.92 million viewers. The season has averaged a 0.4 in the demo and 0.88 million.
To no surprise, FX isn’t ordering a second season of Lights Out. The cable channel made the announcement today and indicated that the final two episodes will air as previously scheduled; on March 29th and April 5th at 10pm.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lights Out cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

I can not believe it’s been cancelled!!! I always look forward for Tuesday night to see each episode. The show tells a great story and I’ve become a big fan of Holt. It’s a shame FX won’t give it a shot with a second season.
Dam, I really enjoyed this show. Holt McCallany is an excellent actor. Not sure why it did not catch on but it was very well done.
VERY DISAPPOINTED! My fiance and I both love this show and is set to record on highest priority on our dvr cause we both work tuesday night! I would hope they reconsider a second season on fx or even another network?
The majority of TV viewers and the networks are interested in 2 types of shows, “reality” TV and some permutation of CSI. “Lights Out” had great actors, a real plot with believable characters, and an almost cinematic quality. I really think FX missed the boat by not promoting this show more aggressively. Where are these actors on the talk show circuit? It’s a real shame to lose such a quality production. Let’s hope FX doesn’t let “Justified” slip through the cracks too.
this is one of the best shows since the sopranos. it’s the only show my wife & i watch together.
This is crap…This is one of the best shows on TV right now. Perfect acting, good story, good casting. I pisses me off that s@#t like archer and its allways sunny and other dumbazz shows are still on. Its sad that people like watching retarded crap…really sad.
This is perhaps the best show I have seen on TV since the Soprano’s. Holt’s performance is simply amazing, not to mention great supporting roles of each character. I REALLY looked forward to every episode and made sure I was home or somewhere I could watch it. This show was like a REAL LIFE Rocky Balboa Character, considering I am from NJ, and frequent these areas everyday. I am VERY SAD that the series is being dropped, and HOPE that some other network will pick it up and continue on.
damnit!! this is the ONLY tv show I watch!!! do NOT cancel this!
lights out is a good show..too early to cancel…definately would like to have seen a second season
This sucks!!!!!!!! Please some other network pick up the series. Lights out is the best show on tv. Don’t understand how the ratings could be so low
Don’t cancel LO it’s a great show! Come on !
This is extremely frustrating. My wife and I, BOTH, are big fans of the show. It is well written, acted, directed and perfectly cast. In fact, Light’s if one of the few shows that does not appeal to cretins (Two and a Half Men).
The polling and rating process is flawed. Good luck Holt, you really showed your chops on this one!!
This is awful lights out is an amazing show. My buddies and I look forward to watching it together every week. FX is retarded their isn’t another show they can replace lights out with that will be nearly as good.
I really looked forward to this show every week. It’s my favorite show on TV at the moment.
After they canceled Terriers and now this, I think someone at FX needs to get canned.
It’s more proof that viewing audiences are just really stupid too.
this is crap. every show i get interested in goes off tv, terriers, lights out, dark blue. all very good and ive heard nothing but good about them all. poor ratings??? what do u call its always sunny in philly? that show is horribly retarded and i wouldn’t watch it to save my a**. but it remains on!
