It’s “lights out” for FX’s new boxing drama series. FX has cancelled Lights Out after one season due to poor ratings.
Lights Out revolves around Patrick ‘Lights’ Leary (Holt McCallany), an aging former heavyweight boxing champion. He struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring. The poor economy and a series of bad investments leave Patrick at a perilous crossroads; battling the urge to return to boxing or reluctantly accepting a job as a brutal and intimidating debt collector. The show also features Catherine McCormack, Pablo Schreiber, and Stacy Keach.
Though some critics applauded the series, not many people watched the premiere in January. It registered just a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.487 million viewers. The second episode dropped to a 0.4 rating and 0.92 million viewers. The season has averaged a 0.4 in the demo and 0.88 million.
To no surprise, FX isn’t ordering a second season of Lights Out. The cable channel made the announcement today and indicated that the final two episodes will air as previously scheduled; on March 29th and April 5th at 10pm.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lights Out cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

Love the show you could do many different things the way you left it please bring it back for one more season please
I have watched every single show that has been aired. And i have never done that for any other show in my entire life. THis is the first show that caught my eyes from the first show to the last. I dont understand what the idiot in power is thinking but he better get his a** in line or he is gonna get cancelled. Some other channel should pick this up because clearly FX doesnt have the same fan base as ABC or another big name. I really really really am saddened by this show being cancelled:(
I agree with elinor, I have watched every episode of the season and I really liked the show. I’m sad to see it go especially with the way the finale left patrick…maybe another tv station will continue it we can only hope. It seems like the only shows on tv anymore are stupid reality shows I’m sick of all that junk..if I want reality I’ll live it not watch it.
Please bring Lights Out back!! Just finished watching the finale and they can’t end a series like that. Best drama I’ve seen in a long time. Nonetheless, an original drama! No other show like it on TV.
I thought the series was excellent and would definatly watch season two.
We have watched every episode of Lights Out, and really enjoyed it. We are huge fans of the series and are very dissapointed to hear that Season 2 has been cancelled. It’s unfortunate that when we start enjoying a show, it gets cancelled. Makes a person wonder why we pay so much for television.
What a shame…with all the junk on TV..they cancel the one truly good show!! I looked forward to tuesday evenings to watch this show, any chance they’ll reconsider???
not to mention that stupid fire show hasnt been good in five years but they keep buying that show it ****** sux! van Toffler is a stupid ****** *****!
what a bunch of ******** thats ****** ******** i loved lights out great show **** reality shows give me some action and good acting any day!
I love this show. You people suck for not renewing season 2. Couldn’t u put it in a diff time slot? Booo
morons who watch reality tv, ratings and politicians. God help us.
I have to say romeo was my favorite character , but this show certainly deserves 1 more chance and not alot of people tune into fx.. look at breaking bad not alot of people watched the early episodes of breaking bad but then boom best series on tv , won awards ..and this story you can do so much with it..maybe they need a new writer b/c holt was perfect and so was the dad for their roles .
I think the series was great. I told all the people I know who use to be involved in boxing and they loved it. No one knew about it because of the time slot. It’s not as good as Damages but still kept you guessing on what was coming next.
Very sad to hear this we LOVE this show! And can’t wait to watch every week. F/X should have given it another chance, a new time slot would have worked.
Even with the cancellation of Lights Out, I think Holt should receive an emmy nomination. He gave an excellent performance. Lights Out should have been given a second season. It is possible that people who do not regularly view FX did not even know that Lights Out existed. I don’t agree with FX’s President, Van Toffler, that everyone is watching reality series at 10 p.m.
