It’s “lights out” for FX’s new boxing drama series. FX has cancelled Lights Out after one season due to poor ratings.
Lights Out revolves around Patrick ‘Lights’ Leary (Holt McCallany), an aging former heavyweight boxing champion. He struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring. The poor economy and a series of bad investments leave Patrick at a perilous crossroads; battling the urge to return to boxing or reluctantly accepting a job as a brutal and intimidating debt collector. The show also features Catherine McCormack, Pablo Schreiber, and Stacy Keach.
Though some critics applauded the series, not many people watched the premiere in January. It registered just a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.487 million viewers. The second episode dropped to a 0.4 rating and 0.92 million viewers. The season has averaged a 0.4 in the demo and 0.88 million.
To no surprise, FX isn’t ordering a second season of Lights Out. The cable channel made the announcement today and indicated that the final two episodes will air as previously scheduled; on March 29th and April 5th at 10pm.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lights Out cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

The cancellation of ANOTHER one of my favorite shows, makes it clear to me why network television is becoming increasingly irrelevant. They could care less about really entertaining a varied audience, but rather go after the fastest, biggest buck, and screw anyone who doesn’t like it. I will say, FX also delivered Rescue Me for five plus seasons and I give them credit for that, but I have had so man disappointments losing my fav shows after one season, that I don’t bother to watch like I used to.
I thought it was a good show. Maybe if it wasn’t on so late at night there would of been more viewers. Holt is a good actor. Hope to see him in other shows or films.
UNBELIEVALBE – ONE OF THE FIRST ORIGINAL NEW SHOWS THAT COME OUT WITH SO MANY GREAT STORYLINES TERRIFIC CAST AND THERE IS NO SEASON 2 – THATS FREAKING NUTS…..
Very good show and i was looking forward to see what happens next, what a pity.
Crazy BEST show on t.v but i guess people are to stupid to realize it instead there watching mtv vh1 and allll that other crap thats on hopefully hbo or one of the premium cable channels with pick it up this show would get golden ratings if they do a season 1 recap and put it on sunday nights in the fall. Also it will get more into watching boxing.. until they realize there is no actual great white hope lol
americans are just turning into zombies watching jersey shore and teen mom not shows with actual character whats happened to the people in this country
not making a second season to this show is criminal. It was one of the few series that kept me on the edge of my seat. This program could have EASILY become as big a success as “DEXTER” it jest needed a chance, and some better promotion.
We really enjoyed this show. One of our favorites. Enjoyed all the characters and really got involved in this series. It was so real. Please bring it back for a second season.
We are crushed!! This was one of the bbest new dramas in a long time. FX series just can’t carry the audience without promos.
They need another season! Please fx one more season!! Please!!!!!
What a huge disappointment and mistake to cancel. I really enjoyed the series.
What a great show. I am so disappointed to see it cancelled.
Lights out is a very good show and it will pick up on ratings. DONT CANCEL
please bring this one back!
A great great show – the lemmings would rather watch the tedious and trite CBS shows and the like ad nauseum while this gem gets cancelled. People wonder why there’s nothing to watch…
