It’s “lights out” for FX’s new boxing drama series. FX has cancelled Lights Out after one season due to poor ratings.
Lights Out revolves around Patrick ‘Lights’ Leary (Holt McCallany), an aging former heavyweight boxing champion. He struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring. The poor economy and a series of bad investments leave Patrick at a perilous crossroads; battling the urge to return to boxing or reluctantly accepting a job as a brutal and intimidating debt collector. The show also features Catherine McCormack, Pablo Schreiber, and Stacy Keach.
Though some critics applauded the series, not many people watched the premiere in January. It registered just a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.487 million viewers. The second episode dropped to a 0.4 rating and 0.92 million viewers. The season has averaged a 0.4 in the demo and 0.88 million.
To no surprise, FX isn’t ordering a second season of Lights Out. The cable channel made the announcement today and indicated that the final two episodes will air as previously scheduled; on March 29th and April 5th at 10pm.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lights Out cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

I am so disappointed to hear that Lights Out is going to be cancelled. It is a very compelling and moving series that I felt was really set apart from the average tv show. I felt that FX could have kept the series and continued on with the show. I agree with many of these comments stating that the garbage out there today lasts longer than a season, how come Lights out couldn’t get at least one more? The show kept me on the edge of my seat, and each week I was excited to see what would happen next.… Read more »
hate fx for cancelling it!
This is an outrage. I honestly feel this was an AWESOME show with not enough marketing/advertising. I only knew about it from my husband and initially wasnt interested, I thought it was a reality boxing type of show. After watching for less than 5 minutes, I was hooked. I really hope that someone takes these comments seriously and finds a way to bring the show back. This is one of the very few things I enjoy watching, this is beyond dissapointing. There is not much on TV worth watching as it is.
jersey shore can get 3 season but lights out is canceled after one? just goes to show what kind of garbage they will keep showing
I cant believe that Lights Out was cancelled, it was my favourite , and I loved the ending of each episode where it ended in the time of most intriguing place and I just had to wait for the next episode.
I really want a new season, please FX make it happen
Inaccessible channel, bad time slot…those factors contributed to the poor audience attraction.
Justin Zackham has a gem in the name of Holt McCallany, and my hope is that some other channel picks up the show and puts it on no later than 9:00 PM.
Whoever decided to cancel lights out is the biggest effin idiot on th planet! That was my favorite show in a long time!!! Some please make season two happen!!!
I am sorry to hear that, I enjoyed watching Lights out. The story was put together very well the actors were great. Mordern day Rocky, showed both sides of the business and showed a family trying to survive. I wish the story could finish but FX decided not to contiue it. There were fans of the show not enough i guess
I was really dissappointed to hear there wouldn’t be a second season!
That’s a shame. Wish more people had watched it to have it come back for a second season.
I think FX should give it a second season before axing it. I really enjoyed it and it is way better than that crap show Louie or The League! Bring back Lights, FX!!!!!
The scene were Lights Leary had his new trainer training him was superb. I gonna miss the show. The show really brought great moments that any boxing fan would love to see.
That show was awesome, and I can’t believe it was cancelled. Everyone I mentioned the show to was aware of it, and agreed that there was no way there wouldn’t be a 2nd season.
I really enjoyed Lights Out. I was very disappointed to hear that FX cancelled it.
Lights Out was one of the best shows on TV in a sea of trash. That final fight scene was one of the best I’ve seen on either live TV or the movies. It figures. If a show has good drama and acting, it gets axed. If its a stupid reality show or drama with boring acting and same old type shows over and over, it gets renewed. Maybe another network with intelligent executives will pick this show up and put it on at (9:00 P.M.(:00 P.m.
