It’s “lights out” for FX’s new boxing drama series. FX has cancelled Lights Out after one season due to poor ratings.
Lights Out revolves around Patrick ‘Lights’ Leary (Holt McCallany), an aging former heavyweight boxing champion. He struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring. The poor economy and a series of bad investments leave Patrick at a perilous crossroads; battling the urge to return to boxing or reluctantly accepting a job as a brutal and intimidating debt collector. The show also features Catherine McCormack, Pablo Schreiber, and Stacy Keach.
Though some critics applauded the series, not many people watched the premiere in January. It registered just a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.487 million viewers. The second episode dropped to a 0.4 rating and 0.92 million viewers. The season has averaged a 0.4 in the demo and 0.88 million.
To no surprise, FX isn’t ordering a second season of Lights Out. The cable channel made the announcement today and indicated that the final two episodes will air as previously scheduled; on March 29th and April 5th at 10pm.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lights Out cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

very disappointing, my favorite show on television right now, how can FX start a show that looks terrible like wilfred, and then cancel this?
My husband and I got hooked on this terrific new show. Today he bet me that it would be canceled based on how things usually go with FX. And sure enough, he was right. Aaargh! I am so disappointed. I love the characters on FX and have grown attached to them. Too bad for us all! I agree with everyone here – dumb dumb stuff like Jersey Shore just cruises along. It takes time to build up a fanbase but the networks have NO Patience. How about Damages? An award winning show that’s gone. Fringe came very close to getting… Read more »
I love this show….please do not cancel it!!!!!!!!!
I’m done watching new fx shows all they do is cancel them after the first season. They made a mistake by canceling terriers now lights out. I’m done fx… I’m done.
WTF would they cancel this for…thats ridiculus
Its amazing how they keep stupid **** like Jersey Shore on TV and good shows like this get canceled. Please tell me I’m not the only one who is seriously fed up with this crap.
FX—please reconsider your decision to cancel Lights Out….give it a 2nd chance this summer and re-run the 1st season….this is a great show that will catch on if given the chance.
Too many shows on FX may have resulted in nobody catching on to Lights Out. And same here, right now its reality tv or Lights Out. The said thing is that the demographic wants reality tv shows like, well, basically everything on MTV.
Rescue Me, NipTuck, and The Shield will always be FX’s greatest achievements with their original series, but if Justified was able to get a second season with the terrible plots and characters, Lights Out most definately deserves a second chance.
For some reason, viewers didn’t find this really wonderful show. The csting of the characters has been superb, the likes of Stacy Keach, Holt McCallany fits the boxer-family man to a T. I think the marketing missed the family appeal which would have drawn in many more women viewers, too much emphasis on it being solely a male show. The family dynamics are engaging and so real. a pity.
I love this show. The problem is you have to watch the show from the begining and get into the development of the story line. I wish it would get picked up by someone. Its my fav show on TV now
On facebook there is a page called Save Light Out let’s try to do something
Such great showw there needs to be second season
These idiots really cancelled the show? It is literally the ONLY show i like watching on TV. Good characters, good story, nice mix of action/drama…UNREAL!!
I was very sad to see this go. I hope they finale is great and they can at least wrap it up so I can feel good about it. I suppose it would be tough to write another season. Great show sad to see it and terriers go.
Great characters! Valerie Perrine as world’s most despicable mom who spawned despicable Johnny . . . show will be missed!
This is literally the only show on TV that I watch. I wait around all week for it, and I know lots of other people that do to. Congratulations FX on cancelling another great show
