It looks like the story of the Sutton clan has come to an end. ABC Family has quietly decided to cancel Lincoln Heights after four seasons.
Lincoln Heights tells the story of Officer Eddie Sutton (Russell Hornsby) who moves his family back to his old neighborhood. Other castmembers include Erica Hubbard, Nikki Micheaux, Rhyon Brown, Mishon Ratliff, Robert Adamson, and Michael Reilly Burke.
The TV show debuted on January 8, 2007 and the first season was successful enough to warrant a renewal by March. At that point, it was one of the cable channel’s higher performers in the key demographics.
While announcing that the second season would kick off in September 2007, ABC Family President Paul Lee said, “We really think we have something unique here… The fact that it’s an African American family drama alone separates it from the crowd, but its terrific cast and superb writing also make it truly special and perfect for ABC Family.”

Following season two, it took several months for ABC Family to decide to bring Lincoln Heights back for a third round. They finally did and that kicked off in September 2008. The audience grew and the show became the cable channel’s top performer among Females 12-34 and Female teens. It didn’t take as long to renew the series for year four.
Season four kicked off in September 2009. It ended up being one of the channel’s weaker programs of 2009, being outperformed by other ABC Family shows, including cancelled Kyle XY.
No specific reason was given for the Lincoln Heights cancellation. However, though it’s been favored by some critics, the series has never been a big hit for the cable channel and has only been given 10 episode renewals each season.
What do you think? Are you upset or surprised that the series has been cancelled? Do you think the last episode of Lincoln Heights is a worthwhile series finale?

no i dont think lincoln heights shouldve been canceled this is really a great show i mean im a teenager and this show means something to me i hope the director change his mind and make a season 5.
am agreeing with everybody coments i been watching this show since i was 11years old so i see no reason why it was canceled it was a insipring show it told how familys should stick together. In every espisodes it tell how one another struggle for another . each character was oustanding each of there part ws played well . I real y realy hope this show come back.
Please reconsider. My family found it encouraging. We just discovered it via netflix because ABC has not ever had a strong line-up, therefore I never paid any attention. Now that I have seen Lincoln Heights on netlfix I would make it a part of what I watch each week, it certainly beats all the reality tv shows. There is a positive message and one that deals with ethical situations on a regular basis, and shows that hard decisions are often not easy, but can indeed be lonely, but at least you have your integrity. What a great message for kids… Read more »
Lincoln heights is the most positive show that I ever seen, it’s educational, funny, and teaches the true meaning of family. The show is very motivational and realates to me personally, I have no doubt there is many others that can say the same. The t.v series has true meaning about life and how to approach situations in a positive way. BRING LINCOLN HEIGHTS BACK!!!
I started watching Lincoln Heights on TV1 and I watch it everyday and they are starting to repeat the seasons over. It is very inspirational and real. We are surrounded by reality tv so it was refreshing to see this show. Let’s get Lincoln Heights back on tv. The Game was returned due to the writings of the fans so let’s do it bring Lincoln Heights back!!
I started watching the show after it was cancelled but after I watched it, I was upset that I didnt tune in while it was on the air. It was a great show that shed a positive light on african american shows. Im not sure exactly why it was cancelled but there was a BIG mistake made by cancelling it!!!!!!!
I really enjoyed watching “Lincoln Heights” and was looking forward to season 5. Please reconsider your decision the cancel such a Great show!
I am a black female and it was marvelous that ABC allowed themselves to promote the creation of a realistic show like “Lincoln Heights” that captured many positive aspects of the black family and their neighbors in the “hood”. It’s imperative to see mixed couples, gang violence, family bonding, community support and career oriented black people be successful by building their hood versus leaving it! I hope ABC brings it back or produce similar shows like it! Our kids and families need to know that we can succeed no more where we live and that love never fails ALL!
Well said Lyniya Johnson.
This was the best series ever. I was just turned omnipotent to the show a couple months ao. It is the most true, down to earth, encouraging shows I have ever seen. It teaches family bonding as well as community involvement. Best show ever.
My family and I were devastated when they canceled season 5. We saw all 4 seasons on NETFLIX , and were impressed . sorry to see it go. please bring it back, and make many families happy.
this show was amazing! it teaches people the truth about life and how dangerous it can be but how families can get through anything. i most def. love that character of Lizzie, shes reminds me of me. it sucks that it had to be cancelled but maybe they can think about it and make a fifth season come out! itll make a lot of people happy.
I agree with all the above comments… especially Hazel G. I didn’t even know this show was coming on. I started watching it after it was cancelled and haven’t missed a show yet. It is a very encouraging, and real show. It shows that everything is not always gonna work out. I loved that about the show.
My family and I would be waiting with excitement every Tuesday night to watch Lincoln Heights – it was one of times for the family to be together and watch TV – my family is still a family that sits at the dinner table and have dinner together. My husband trucked for 30 yrs and it wasn’t possible for him to be with us to have dinner – but for the rest of us three (my two daughters ages 19 & 21 now and myself) it was mandatory. Lincoln Heights was such a positive family – a family that helped… Read more »
Although it is too late. This show was Amazing and better marketing would have allowed for better ratings.
The reason why was others shows had taking up tv time
This is such a dissappointment. The story is so encouraging, seeing a succesful black man and women taking good care of their family by teaching them how to cope with life. The show is realistic to a middle class family trying to survive in a semi-gangster community while undergoing a major make-over by the GOOD Citizens of Lincoln Heights. Somebody in BET or LMN needs to pick them up since ABC dropped them. I, too discovered the show late because I was not a consistent fan of ABC. I look at the re-runs and I truly enjoy the action-packed shows.… Read more »
Coming late to the game, in my opinion it has been a long time coming for any network station to get a storyline that depicts a black family on television that isn’t surrounded by or with a comedic role for other people to laugh at like FLAVA of LOVE,WHO LOVES NEW YORK,etc…. Good times, Cosby some good, some bad but since Soul Food was cancelled from ShowTime we haven’t had a strong African American family on TV with a positive spin. Until my cable provider added TV One to its listing I didn’t even watch BET or Centric. Now that I… Read more »
