CBS recently unveiled their Paula Abdul reality competition series, Live to Dance. Some have been waiting to see what Abdul would do ever since she left the judging table at American Idol. Will this new TV series be a big success like Idol or cancelled after on season, like so many others?
On Live to Dance, dancers from across the country and of all ages audition and then compete for the crown and a $500,000 prize. On the show, Abdul serves as lead judge as well as coach and mentor to the performers. At the judging table, she’s joined by choreographer Travis Payne and singer/dancer Kimberly Wyatt. The series is hosted by Andrew Gunsberg.
The reality series debuted on Tuesday, January 4th, with an okay showing — a 2.4 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 10.22 million viewers. The next night, viewership dropped nearly 25% to a 1.8 rating and 7.65 million viewers. Not a good sign. The third installment fell once again, to a 1.5 demo rating and 6.71 million. The most recent episode fell 33% in the demo to a truly horrible 1.0 rating and just 5.08 million.
Live to Dance is currently averaging a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demo and 7.41 million total viewers. In the CBS rankings, that puts it below low-rated Friday shows like CSI: NY and isn’t far above 48 Hours, the network’s little-watched Saturday night true-crime series.
In essence, Live to Dance is a ratings bomb and there would seem to be no reason for CBS to renew it for a second season. In fact, at this point, its very possible that the network could try to send it packing to Saturday nights — except reruns of crime dramas sometimes get better ratings than Live to Dance’s latest installment.
But, what do you think? Is Live to Dance worth saving or should it be cancelled? Can you think of any ways to fix it to attract more viewers?

Thank you Paula, for the sincerity that you show everyone you encountered,I believe with all of my heart that God place you there for this reason.Keep up the good work. Love you, Your fan Darin.
cancel it. I love dance and dance shows but I don’t really like this one, I will continue to watch it but I hope it gets cancelled.
SAVE THE SHOWW!
I sure am happy with Paula and her new show. My family also loves the show. I hope Paula keeps the good show going! The show plays at the same time worthless American Idol is on. Folks watch live to dance tonight. I am sure you will enjoy the show and it’s the best thing on tv tonight. Keep it going Paula, you have a winner,
Paula and Simon would be the best, Everyone would watch even against idol.
i love this show with Paula but i do not like the other two experts, i don’t like travis, he’s too proud of himself just because he worked with mj but the show has potential if Paula gets rids of the two experts that she’s with and maybe have guest experts on there like Mary from SYTYCD. i love her and hope she’s going to be back as a regular judge on there.
Paula is amazing but the others not sure of others.
CBS its time to give the public what they want NICOLE!
Hello, save the show !!!! It is bright, refreshing and very entertaining. It is a show within a bubble. The kind of bubble you wanna crawl into when the world seems to jaded, when you just wanna breath good vibes. It so Paula, and she is forever our girl !

The biggest thing is CBS didn’t do the show any favors. It should have held until summertime. I honestly think if CBS brought it back they should revamp it a bit. Get rid of those awful boring judges shes saddled with and hire two new judges. Make it a little more youthful. Putting the show against Idol has killed it in bad ways. Honestly though I don’t think if this show is canned we will see last of Paula. Honestly Paula needs to reunite with Simon on the X factor and that would be ratings gold. Anyway agree Paula/SIMON REUNION… Read more »
Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll see her on X-Factor too. She can do both. Simon is not stupid. I’m sure he has her all signed up.
I really like this show. I find myself asking if tonight is the night it come’s on. I have my kid’s record it for me if I am not going to be home. I find the show amazing and it shouldn’t have to be compared to anything. Let it be what it is. I vote yes for Paula’s show Live To Dance 100% 🙂
Give her a chance!!!! It’s a new show. What do you expect? Frankly speaking, I’ve catched every episode of this show, and I love it. It’s fast paced and not packed with sob stories unlike other reality shows which are so unreal. I don’t understand this attitude that the media have towards Paula. I like the show and I think it should have another season. A definite YES. We need this show. It’s charming and sincere and full of great dance acts.
Paula is amazing not sure about the others guys as they seam like they are acting up on TV & no gen. Anyway why did they not have Nicole ? was the other one is it Kimberly cheaper to hire?
You really need more interesting and charismatic judges. Paula Abdul works best as a supporting character, not the main course. Additionally, she belongs on a show that has dancers who are trying out to be on videos or trying out to go on tour with the hottest act in the world, not judging or mentoring kids or old folk, like she does on this show. What a waste of her incredible talents. She really needs to get involved in what she is best at – like when she helped Janet Jackson for instance!
SAVE THIS SHOW. ROSE
The show’s premiere was obviously flooded with viewers wanting to see Paula. Her return to tv was highly anticipated. However, my theory on the dropping ratings is that once people realized that Paula is now totally serious and sober, instead of her regular sexy sleazy hilarious crunk self, no one wanted to watch. HOW TO SAVE THE SHOW: 1) Paula to act a little crazier, like she did on idol. 2) Get high-profile guest stars to perform on the show. 3) Let people get to the know the contestants.
