REGRET, LOSS AND REDEMPTION ON TLC’S DOCU-SERIES “LONG LOST FAMILY”
The eight-episode docuseries premieres Sunday, March 6, 2016
Los Angeles, CA – LONG LOST FAMILY features the highly emotional and touching stories of people who have suffered a lifetime of separation and are yearning to be reunited with their birthparents and biological families or find children they had to place for adoption long ago. Either because of circumstance or fate, they’ve barely – if ever – met. The TLC series premieres Sunday, March 6 at 10/9c.
Hosts and well-known television personalities Chris Jacobs and Lisa Joyner are both adoptees who have embarked on their own journeys to discover their biological families. Each episode follows the hosts as they investigate the stories of two individuals or families who have longed to resolve their lifelong searches. The stakes are incredibly high: a successful investigation offers the promise of not just a heartwarming reunion, but also a chance of redemption for people who have wrestled with emotional agony for years.
There is no simple path to find the missing loved ones. With tightly held family secrets in their way, the odds are stacked against them. Lisa and Chris conduct painstaking searches through public records, and utilize the latest DNA technology in their search for answers. But what they discover, and who they find, is anything but expected.
Some incredible stories include:
Rita
A mother who was forced to place her baby boy for adoption 31 years ago. Rita’s boyfriend dumped her when she told him she was pregnant and her mother sent her to a home for pregnant young women for fear of a scandal. Still holding on to his baby blanket from the hospital, she longs to meet her son again and keep the promise she made to find him.
Jenny
Her birth mother was the daughter of a minister who was deeply embarrassed by a pregnancy out of wedlock. Because of the lack of support offered, she ended up placing Jenny with social services. The search for Jenny’s birth mother takes a dramatic turn, when photo evidence suggests they may have been unknowingly connected for years.
Diana and Jeannette
Two women in search for the father who suddenly vanished from their lives when they were just 4 and 5 years old. With no memories of their separation from him, the women have grown up haunted by his sudden disappearance. They hope he can be found so they can see him once again to find out the truth and ask him what happened.
Ancestry, the largest provider of family history and personal DNA testing, is teaming up with TLC as a sponsor of the upcoming season. As part of the show sponsorship, Ancestry provides family history research on each of the featured individuals to help make discoveries possible.
Long Lost Family is produced by Shed Media for TLC.

Iam looking for a nephew that was born to my sister Susan Ortega she had a son in 1955 all I remember it was in feb she was 18 yrs old and her boyfriend was in the army at Ft Hood Texas he was from Meridian Mississippi she found out he was married . My parents were devastated and my father sent her away with the pastor of our church . My sister asked me to look for him. So I started back in the 90’s but I had no luck everyone that knew her had passed away or they… Read more »
I didn’t get a chance to tell the father of my son I was pregnant before I learned he moved while we were boyfriend and girlfriend in high school. My family had limited resources (no transportation, telephones) at the time so it was difficult to keep in touch since I had to move and attend a new high school. It’s been years since I searched. I started with the High School staff requesting records but were all confidential with no success. This show will give me hope that it is possible because people can be found with similar situations and… Read more »
I would love to know what it takes to be considered for the show, I’ve been looking for my birth father since I was 12,I’m 35 now. He has a very common name so my searches have all come up empty. Please contact me about this.
The show has a casting facebook page. The link is https://www.facebook.com/longlostfamilyusacasting/
I wish all of you the best of luck. My daughter was taken from me when she was a year old. She found me when she was 21. I had been hurting EVERY DAY of those 20 years. When I spoke to her for the first time I said “I’ve waited 20 years for this call”, almost exactly like the woman in the show. EVERYTHING on this show really hits home.
I am so looking forward to this show, this is a subject close to our hearts…
These stories need to be told because the general public has no idea how difficult it is to search as a birthparents or an adoptee. Records that provide information are still archaically sealed in most states. We are as sick as our secrets. As a birtmother I had to go to great lengths to find my son who I documented in records that I did want to be found. Birth is a reality. Why do we as a nation conspire to keep secret that reality as if it was a crime
So here it goes I’m in search of my real dad never met no pictures nothing. Jon Paul coats I was named after which is on this show. And played a big part of my younger life. I’m a single dad with a hole of not know where half of me came from. Very little info to go by! Which is upsetting being 31 not knowing where half of me is from. Was born in Santa Anna California in 1984. And now live in Aurora Illinois raising my daughter all by myself. I just wish I could at least find… Read more »
I love shows like this. I was adopted and have always wanted to meet my birth mother. I’ve been curious about her and any family that I might have. I can’t wait to watch. Especially because my friend is on one of the episodes.

My husband wants to find his little brother, James Holt..born June 01, 1968 or 1969. James was of mixed race. His mom was married at the time to a white man…James Holt…a bigggot. He would beat little James so bad that the law got involved and removed him. Mom put him up for adoption. ( I have court ordered papers). My husband was told that his little brother was taken to hospital with hole in heart. He kept questioning his mom. She finally told him little James died. My husband’s, Howard, mother died and that’s when we found evidence of… Read more »
I was turned down by The Long Lost Family after many emails, document submissions and signatures, phone conversations and skype interviews. My case was just too difficult and the trail was too hard to track, even though I had a solid date, hospital, and of course…my name and such. To see the advertising now airing has hit a sore spot since it has been so long and I was a child myself when all this took place. When no one else wants old wounds opened and possibly lead you down a path of lies, this was the only optimistic path… Read more »
At least you got a phone call. I must of been a hot potato because i got dropped.
When were you born?
I will be eagerly looking forward to this show’s debut on March 6. I was FORCED, and adoption was RAMMED DOWN MY THROAT when my daughter was born during the Baby Scoop Era. Absolutely no support whatsoever! I was kept in total ignorance of my legal rights and alternatives to adoption..Total case of fraud, coercion and duress! I would love to be on this show! Shout out to my daughter born February 9, 1965. Happy 51st Birthday! I love you Baby, always have, always will! I have never stopped yearn to know and and love you!
My husband and will watch he wants to find his father or his family. So this might give us a clue in what direction to start
What was his birthday? Do you have an olive complexion?
Boy do we have a long lost story to tell TLC ABOUT!!!!
I like the sound of that. Will Long Lost Family include some of the stories from Unsolved Mysteries? Like Marlene Santana’s family trying to find her, Monica Libao trying to find her real family, Irene Love trying to find her long lost sister, Scott Merz trying to find his birth mother, Ken Palmer, Martha Brown trying to find her long lost twin brother, The Daughter of Oscar Norton, Gerry and Terry Robinson, Lois Cappoziello trying to find her long lost twin sister, Jacqueline Castaneda’s parents trying to find her, Geoffrey Harding trying to find his long lost brother and Peggy… Read more »
