The end is in sight for Syfy‘s Lost Girl series. The upcoming fifth season will be the show’s last. Star Anna Silk announced the news to fans via Twitter and YouTube.
Silk told EW that, “Honestly, I thought we might get one more, but I knew that this could be the last season… It’s time, in a way. In terms of the story, I think we could have done another. But I’m happy that we’re saying goodbye in a particularly strong season, and I’m pleased that we’re gonna go out with a bang.”
On the positive side, the producers of Lost Girl learned that the series wasn’t being renewed for a sixth season early enough so that they could make a true series finale.
Here’s the video announcement:
There are 16 episodes in season five and the first eight will air in Canada starting December 7th. Syfy has yet to announce an airdate — or to officially announce that they will air the fifth season. It’s almost guaranteed that they will, it’s just a question of when.
Here’s the press release about the series ending from Showcase in Canada:
SHOWCASE ANNOUNCES THE EPIC FINAL SEASON OF LOST GIRL
TORONTO, August 25, 2014 – Today, Showcase revealed that the previously announced fifth season of Lost Girl will wrap up the fan-favourite series. In a message to the show’s loyal “Fae”-natics, Lost Girl star Anna Silk revealed that Showcase supersized the original 13-episode order to 16 final episodes bringing the series to a thrilling conclusion. The season is split into two heart-stopping parts, with the first eight episodes airing Sundays at 9pm ET/PT on Showcase, beginning December 7.
“The massive popularity of Lost Girl is a testament to the inventive and hard-working team at Prodigy Pictures, the magnetic and talented cast and the most devoted and passionate fan base in Canadian television,” said Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President, Content, Shaw Media. “We’re so proud that Showcase has been the home to this landmark series and we look forward to sharing these final 16 episodes with the show’s fans.”
“It’s been an absolute honour playing Bo, and I’m looking forward to seeing where her personal journey leads her this season,” said Lost Girl star Anna Silk.
“Lost Girl has been an incredible ride. We’re so proud to have delivered a show with the groundbreaking message that you can live the life you choose,” said Executive Producer Jay Firestone.
Lost Girl follows supernatural seductress Bo (Silk), a tough yet loveable Succubus who feeds off sexual energy. Since realizing she is part of the Fae, creatures of legend and folklore who live among humans, Bo has resisted choosing an allegiance to either the Dark or Light Fae clans. Instead, she has forged her own path between the human and Fae worlds, while embarking on a mission to unlock the secrets of her origin.
In the blow-out final season, Bo goes to hell and back to try to save the people she loves, triggering an explosive chain of events that play out over the exhilarating final episodes.
Lost Girl was developed by Prodigy Pictures, in association with Shaw Media and Showcase. Executive Producers are Jay Firestone, Vanessa Piazza and Michael Grassi.
Lost Girl is produced with the participation of the Canadian Media Fund created by the Government of Canada and the Canadian cable industry, and with the assistance of the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit and the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit Program.
What do you think? Do you like the Lost Girl series? Is it time to end the show or should it have been renewed for a sixth season?
Loved this show…It was creative, exciting, great characters…I guess people would rather watch housewives than thought provoking series these days,….
really loved this show…sad its ending like so many others I loved.
Yep, so has happened with other series, too bad….
I hate TV 99.9% of the time. I watched seasons 1-4 on Netflix. It sucks that you are not renewing for a 6th season. Bring the show to other stations if that one won’t. Screw em.
I so sorry to see it go ,I love it so much .it is a great show and some of this no sense the call shows need to end ,lost girl was one of the good one , but I’m happy they won’t keep us hanging with the ending , but I still think it had a lot more season left ,but o well.
I love this series and I’m absolutely devastated that it will not be back for a 6th and more!
I can’t believe the crappy shows that never seem to end, and the most amazing shows get cut too soon. Lost Girl has so much more stories to tell… and I’m so sorry that they are ending it – it’s a mistake.
R.I.P. Stargate Universe, BBC Being Human, Firefly, Jericho and many others. Here’s hoping that they change their minds before it’s too late.
I agree wholeheartedly that only the good show seem to get the shaft while inane show seem to go on forever and truly brain-dead show are immortal
It’s sad to see a fun yet dramatic story come to an end. It’s also necessary if you want it to stay so. There are so many shows that drag on and on until their ever declining viewership falls low enough to be cancelled. I haven’t seen the final season but the argument can be made that season four reached the dramatic climax. Bo set out to find out who she was and who her parents were. She had accomplished those things by the end of season. We know that Aifa was very powerful and her father is the Black… Read more »
Jumped the shark when they killed off Hale/Kinsey, depowered Evony and disappointed everyone with the Wanderer
All in the same episode
Love the show would really enjoy a spinoff. I will cry when the final season airs. I wish each season could have been longer. I loved the writing and story twists. Foolishness was appropriate for this project it made it fun to watch.
I love Lost Girl and I’d love to have it for many and many years, but I applaud the decision to end this TV show on a high note. I only hope that this will be a killer season because I’m pretty disappointing with the ending so far Lost, Dexter and True Blood just to name a few those endings really s*ck, please don’t be part of that list.
As much as I liked the show in the beginning, the last season was not so captivating, the season before better but nowhere near as good as the first 2 seasons.
Sorry to say, with the same people running the show, I don’t see it getting better.
Time for it to end. Glad it is getting a real ending though.
And as a side note, when Anna was pregnant the show did not fare as well. Really should have postponed things until she was back to herself.
Totally agree that really killed a large part of the action that captivated the fans. I understand women get pregnant and they beleive they can do just fine while they are. But in honesty most women actress can’t. Sometimes I think they need a contact clauses to prevent that if the shows gets signed on for more than 2 seasons. Oh well at least they have time to make a good ending.
One of my favorite shows, I’m sad to know it’s ending! However, allowing it to have an ending, as opposed to leaving us hanging, is a comfort! I hope Syfy airs it soon…I’m still reeling from the end of season four!
When it first came to SYFY they showed the first three seasons back to back. I thought it was interesting. Then the fourth season came along and I don’t know if it was the American influence of always needing a soap love story, but it just got silly and I quit about three shows in. It’s a shame when they pull that nonsense
You must have come in late then, Syfy did not show the first 3 seasons back to back from scratch. I had to wait for each season to watch.
I do remember that my DVR was not recording the first few episodes because it was already shown in Canada, it did not get the NEW tag in the US, so I had to find the first 2 episodes to watch at the start. Still have to do so with the Tivo that replaced the Comcast DVR. Have to set it up to record new and repeats.
It was so sad to hear this news, been a fan since almost the beginning. I was really hoping for another season, but I’m happy that fae family will get a big finale instead of a cliff hanger, most shows leave. I will continue to follow all the actors solo careers and wish them nothing but success! I guess all good things come to an end, but didn’t think so soon.
It is time to end it. I liked it a lot in the beginning but it has become little more than gay sex.
