Chris Albrecht, the CEO of Starz, says the cable channel hasn’t made a decision about the fate of Magic City yet.
At the TCA Summer Press Tour, he said, “Our policy process is one or two seasons of a show to really get behind something if we like the work… We have a couple of little surprises in our pocket in store, so I can’t reveal too much other than you’ll have the answer to your question soon.”
Magic City hasn’t grown it’s small audience in season two and has been performing the same as season one, drawing 430,000 viewers for each episode’s initial airing. That’s less than half of what the Spartacus series drew (1.0 million) and only a bit better than Boss (360,000) which was cancelled after two seasons.
It’s difficult to judge what Starz will do but it’s hard to imagine that they see Magic City’s small viewership as a success.
We also know that they have four new shows in the pipeline and have already renewed one of them — Black Sails — for a second season some six months before the show’s debut.
I suspect that they may cancel Magic City and hope that their new shows will perform as well or better.
UPDATE: Starz has cancelled Magic City after two seasons.

We are so disappointed that Magic City is cancelled. I was the best show we have watched in years. We will cancel our Starz unless it comes back.
Magic City is one of Starz better series and I was sadly disappointed to hear they may seriously consider cancelling it…..I agree with the other posts…it really is an exceptional series that I have watched since the first episode and I too own both years on DVD…….I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a season 3 of Magic City……I think it’s far above some of the new series they’ve put on since…
Magic City is perfectly cast and truly captures the essence of Miami in that era, and shows the parallels between then and now. My family and I watch it together(adult children, of course) and were hooked from the first time we saw it during a
Starz free preview. It is the reason my son, daughter and I each subscribed to Starz. I hate to say it, but cancellation of this show will mean cancellation of our subscription. There is still plenty of depth to this storyline and it would be a shame not to explore it.
BRING BACK MAGIC CITY FOR A THIRD SEASON, I REMEMBER MIAMI ‘S HOTELS IN THAT ERA. CATER TO OLDER FOLKS WHO REMEMBER THIS ERA, TAKE OFF THESE PROGRAMS THAT CATER TO THE PEOPLE WHO DON’T HAVE ANY MIND TO KNOW WHAT A GOOD DRAMATIC SHOW IS.
Magic city is a great show. It’s better than Boardwalk Empire and I’m a big BE fan. Put any show on at friday night and dont really promote it, it will suffer. But this show still has a huge following. Starz should either renew it or sell it/give it to HBO and let it continue. With a better time slot and the proper promotion, this show can go far. Please bring it back!!!
OMG! The show is the bomb! Please, Please and Please bring it back. I do not understand why you would cancell a show that you actually have have to think about to enjoy and which is not mind numbing they would want to cancell. Magic City is gritty and timely. It is of era of Miami which is long gone and yet so needed. The writing is great and yes you never really know what is going to happen it keeps you thinking…….is that really a bad thing in television these days.

I can’t get the show in Canada but I have bought both Season 1 and 2 in dvd form. I think this show is the best thing to happen to television since the invention of colour. BRING BACK MAGIC CITY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
