Magnum PI returned to NBC last week for the second half of its fifth and final season. Though the show’s been cancelled, the reboot series’ showrunner says viewers don’t have to worry the series will end on a cliffhanger.
Starring Jay Hernandez, Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Amy Hill, and Tim Kang, the action series follows Thomas Magnum (Hernandez) as he works as a private investigator in Hawaii.
Magnum PI viewers have been campaigning to save the series since news of its second cancellation was announced in June. The series was cancelled by CBS after four seasons and picked up by NBC for a 20-episode fifth season.
Showrunner Eric Guggenheim said the following about the final episode of the NBC series, per TV Line:
“I actually think it’s quite satisfying. I’m really proud of the finale. There are a couple of threads left dangling that would have been picked up in a Season 6, but I didn’t want to end on a cliffhanger. If I’m being honest, I guess I wanted to play it safe. Too many shows have gotten burned with cliffhangers” that were then left unresolved in the wake of cancellation.
Is it how I would choose to end the show? No, but if it has to be the last episode, I think it absolutely works as a [series] finale. So no, there’s no reason to go back and recut or reshoot.”

I love watching Magnum PI and it is better than the original show. I always know that i have something to look forward to watching. It would be a shame for them to cancel it and hopefully someone will pick it up. Please save it.
NBC please don’t cancel Magnum PI, it’s one of the greatest shows I really look forward to watching. Listen to everyone that watches the show don’t play us and the actors we need a great show like Magnum pI on, please leave it on and don’t keep us guessing if you will bring it back or no, we love it.
I think this show is actually better than the original series, exactly as the Hawaii 5-0 reboot was way better than the original of that series. This should never have been cancelled but if it has to go, I hope everyone gets a Happy Ending, especially Magnum and Higgins. Be nice if Paramount + picked it up.

Excellent show. Please keep it going. Networks keep so many stupid shows. Wonderful stories and love the camaraderie between the actors
I have just loved this series and am s hoping that another network will pick it up; the characters are wonderful and I would love to see where the series could go in terms of story. If not, I hope the actors find a new spot soon so I can still see them!!

The re-boot is cancelled. Somewhere out there, John Hillerman & Roger E. Mosley are smiling.
Roger E. Mosley liked the new series and even had a cameo role, as did Larry Manetti.
Hoping for a wedding in the final. Love this show and it sucks that NBC cancelled it. There aren’t too many good shows on TV anymore but this was one of the good ones.
Maybe CW would pick up the .annum PI reboot series. There must be someone out there with half a brain that can see p?ofit in this show,
I feel that ya’ll are oblivious to the television landscape. The CW just canned all their scripted shows last year save for a very select few, but you’re talking about them picking this up? Not happening.
I am so angry at NBC right now for cancelling Magnum PI I could just scream. It is such a great show with a great cast that seem almost like family to me and I am sure to others of it’s fans too. I can’t think of even one character on the show who I don’t love except the crooks that is. When the ideal first came out for the reboot I didn’t think I would like it at all with the changes and all and I am a big original Magnum/Tom Selleck fan.
