Back on Thanksgiving, the cast and crew of Major Crimes broke the news that the series had been renewed for a fifth season. Today, TNTmade it official. Unfortunately, it isn’t all good news.
Major Crimes follows the further investigations of the detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes division. The crime drama’s cast includes Mary McDonnell, Tony Denison, GW Bailey, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz, Robert Gossett, Phillip P. Keene, Graham Patrick Martin, Kearran Giovanni, and Jonathan Del Arco.
Airing on Monday nights, the fourth season of Major Crimes is currently averaging a 0.54 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.73 million viewers (per the live + same day ratings). Compared to season three, that’s down by 27% in the demo. Still, the crime drama continues to be one of TNT’s highest-rated scripted series.
There have been rumors that the series might be cancelled and creator James Duff has maintained they aren’t true. However, we now know that TNT has ordered only 13 episodes for Summer 2016 — the series’ smallest episode order since season one. That certainly doesn’t sound like a good sign for the show’s future but we’ll have to wait and see.
Fellow TNT series The Librarians (season three) and Murder in the First (season three) were also officially renewed today.
What do you think? Do you still like Major Crimes? Do you think that season five should be the end?
The only real adult drma on tv today.wonderful acting and good chemistry with entire cast.lovewatching the gang and hope they continue for another 5 years.
My husband and I enjoy this show very much! Miss it when on hiatus, and can’t wait to see what’s in store in season 6.
Please don’t cancel this show, it’s unique and the ensemble cast is stellar.
Smart-quick dialogue for a crime show that allows more than decent character development! Much missed when it’s on hiatus and definitely not ready for cancellation. 72sz8
I love this show! Although I enjoy The character Rusty, I would prefer if they would return to the old storyline of solving a crime each week instead of how he is getting along with his life. If that’s the case what happened to Cruz and his love life? You seemed to be headed in that direction in a couple episodes then dropped it. Please treat Rusty the same.
Julio’s love life does not serve the same purpose as the character of Rusty. Also, james duff never meant for either The Closer or MC to be simply a police procedural. If that was the case, they are a dime a dozen. There are interesting articles on this at majorcrimestv.net and on Amazon Prime Palsy fest of The Closer.
If it was going to be the final season, like The Closer, I think they would have announced it as they did TC. In reading other articles, they explained that the original order were always for a smaller number of episodes and then add-ons were ordered. I was able to confirm this through searches on the seasons. Given the fact that MC regularly wins the night/week for most watched scripted series, I like to think TNT couldn’t be that stupid. Although, you never know with TNT. Please remember that although they ordered only 13 episodes of MC, they ordered a… Read more »
I love watching Major Crime its a good show and I look forward every week to watch the episode please don’t cancel it,
Major Crimes has become a boring show. It now looks like it’s leaning toward a co-workers affair with Sharon and Andy instead of what it should be about. I watched every episode of The Closer and was disappointed with the series finished. Each episode held your attention, I was said it ended. When Major Crimes followed thru from The Closer it was as interesting as The Closer, now it’s getting boring. It won’t bother me a bit if you cancel this.
So why are you even bothering to comment if you don’t watch it, Betty?Except to attack those who say they like it. Second, for an affair to happen, the participants have to be MARRIED which neither Sharon or Andy are.
TNT needs to appreciate what they have in Major Crimes. It’s a solid hit for them. A little promotion would help those rating numbers.
Love it. Really look forward to every episode. Great ensemble work! Fun and touching.
I like this show and watch every week. The original main characters are great. I do not care for the story line of the young man who is the “adoptive son”. But that’s just me, others may like it.
Major Crimes is the ONLY reason I watch television on Monday evenings. I almost always schedule around the program so I don’t miss it. It’s as good, and in many respects, better than The Closer. Ten shows? Are they crazy? This show has got to continue, it’s one of the very few shows even worth watching any more.
It’s the only show I watch on Mondays also! And the only TNT show I have continued watching! I gave up on all other TNT shows!
And, good news, MCTV.net has confirmed it’s 13 episodes, not 10.
I absolutely adore this cast! Mary McDonnell, Tony Denison, GW Bailey and the rest of this cast are a pleasure to watch!
I look forward to the next season, and the continuation of the Sharon/Andy “old-fashioned” romance!
Love Major Crimes, even better than original version with Brenda Lee Johnson as the main character. The character, development of the other detectives really makes the show for me. I hope 2016 isn’t the last season.
I love this show and miss The Closer. Please keep it going!
I agree with missing The Closer but Major Crimes has become boring. I no longer watch it.
They need to quit making it “the Rusty show” and get back to involving ALL cast members. He’s been given too big a role for the others to play small potato around. Send Rusty to college FAR away and let the show get back to what it was, and still could be. I would like to see the show renewed for MORE seasons- great cast, drop Rusty.
I totally agree. They need to have more stories about the adults…. those that actually work @ the Police Dept. I also find the Rusty character annoying & college would be a great idea w/just a couple of visits a year! Please continue Major Crimes, it’s a fantastic show!
Love watching this show! It’s a very good cast with characters you can care about and story lines that are interesting. The banter back and forth helps make the show. The one story line that does drag somewhat is the one with Rusty. It has a tendency to take away from the rest of what is going on, but to be fair does also add a more human side to the grit of the law enforcement focus of this show. I wasn’t sure this show would make an impact after the Closer ended, but to its credit and that of… Read more »
