Are you a fan of Major Crimes? If the cancelled TNT show was picked up by another channel, would you watch a seventh season?
As we reported earlier, TNT has cancelled the crime drama after six seasons. The series follows the further investigations of the detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes division. Stars include Mary McDonnell, Tony Denison, GW Bailey, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz, Robert Gossett, Phillip P. Keene, Graham Patrick Martin, Kearran Giovanni, and Jonathan Del Arco.
In a recent Facebook post, creator James Duff says he hopes Major Crimes will be picked up by either another network like CBS or a streaming service like Hulu. However, Warner Brothers TV Studio owns the former TNT series and it’s unlikely another distributor will acquire a show they don’t own outright:
Number 1 question (no competition!): Couldn’t Major Crimes continue on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon or CBS All access? Or even another cable company?
This answer has two parts.Transferring Major Crimes to a streaming platform would probably be a net plus in subscriptions for the company that took the risk. I am sure a large part of our audience would follow. But the acquisition of Major Crimes would be purely a business decision.
There was a time, in the not too distant past, when executives would not have cared from whence a decent drama or comedy originated, as long as it drew a crowd on the day-of-air. Today, most programming chiefs ask themselves, “But does this a show reflect my brand?” or, “Will this drama/comedy make my company some place the ‘cool kids’ avoid?” Though I think this is a little like suggesting people will change grocery stores if the Kettle Potato Chips are too near the Pringles, there are people who take this notion quite seriously. It’s possible my grasp of the concept is muddied; I have never cared about being cool. Anyway! I don’t believe the audience was watching Major Crimes because it was on TNT; I believe they were watching TNT in order to see Major Crimes. I could be wrong.
Another impediment to going elsewhere: Major Crimes is the property of Warner Brothers Television Studio; most other distribution platforms are focused on not only airing new shows, but also owning them. This is a bit of inside baseball (and I promise not digress into a discussion about the Sherman Anti-Trust Act), but it is a challenging factor in deciding where else Major Crimes could live.
Nevertheless, would you watch Major Crimes if it moved to another network? Tell us what you think.
Season six of Major Crimes premieres on TNT on October 31st at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Yes. If this cast remained basically in tact, I would watch Major Crimes on another station.
Absolutely! Major Crimes, old Law and Order reruns, and Animal Kingdom are the reasons I watch TNT. And now one of the three is coming off the schedule after this season!?!? What are they thinking?
I will ONLY watch it if specifically Mary McDonnell, Tony Denison and GW Bailey are in it on another channel!!
And that is only if ALL three of them are in it.
IMO they are the heart of the show and without them, it’s not Major Crimes!!!
I am not bashing on you, but I think it would be difficult to work Mary McDonnell back into the cast, even if I wish they could.
Mary could return with a plot twister she was not dead it was a decoy related to Stroh or this past season could have been a dream. It worked for Dallas many years ago.
This show has a pretty large cast with a pretty hight budget. I have watched this show for many years and now since I am a cable cutter something like Netflix or Amazon would be good for me.
Actually, if you read some of creator James Duff’s letters to our fan family, he says the budget isn’t large. I agree, anywhere they go, I go!
I’d walk through a snowstorm to watch more Major Crimes. The whole cast are excellent
I will miss Major Crimes. I only watch TNT for that show, old Law and Orders but I found old Law and Orders on other channels so tonight is the last night for TNT for me. They sock all good dramas and put just horrible programming on.
And…they actually had a budget cut last season…so yeah…the statement from Ron..simply isn’t true. #savemajorcrimes
Most definitely. Love Major Crimes
YES I will watch this show no matter where it is . As long As Mary and Tony are on it !!!
I was a fan before it became more about Rusty than the other more established cast. Rusty is whiny & annoying, his bio mom was just as bad. If they sent him away I would watch again, skipped the whole last season. Too bad, because I love Fritz, Provenza, Flynn, Julio, & Sharon. Rusty should be a blip, instead they made him unreasonably involved in EVERY thing, ruining the show for me.
I am devastated that M C is to end ———— so are all my friends ———— what are you thinking, TNT? We will watch it anywhere!!
Absolutely, in a heartbeat!
I have paid to $100+ per month to have cable ONLY to watch this show. So, to following it ANYWHERE is a no brainer. Hopefully, we will have that opportunity with the #savemajorcrimes movement! Hopefully someone will capitalize on a mana from heaven mistake! I’d be shocked if they didn’t!
I love this show. I will watch it on any channel!
ABSOLUTELY! Love Mary McDonnell and the Gang!!
I love the show. I will watch it in any channel!
As long as it is on, I WILL WATCH!!
I CERTAINLY WOULD!
