To no surprise, The CW has cancelled their remake of Melrose Place after just one season and 18 episodes.
The new Melrose Place revolves around the same apartment complex as the 1990s original but largely focuses on a new group of characters. The cast includes Katie Cassidy, Stephanie Jacobsen, Jessica Lucas, Michael Rady, Shaun Sipos, Colin Egglesfield, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, Nicholas Gonzalez, Victor Webster, and Brooke Burns. Appearances by actors Thomas Calabro, Laura Leighton, Heather Locklear, Josie Bissett, and Daphne Zuniga help kept ties to the original alive.
In September, despite a lot of promotion, the first episode attracted a small 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demo and 2.31 million viewers. The numbers fell after that and never came close to even matching the premiere’s. The April 4th episode hit a season low, with a horrific 0.4 rating in the demographic and only .86 million viewers.
Even for The CW, the new Melrose Place’s ratings were absolutely terrible. Though the last episode of the season left many storylines up in the air, there was no way that it was going to be coming back.
Well, the network made it official this week. Melrose Place has been cancelled and won’t be returning for season two.
What do you think? Why didn’t this version catch on? Was it a bad idea from the start? Would it have survived if Heather Locklear signed on at the beginning or was including original characters part of why it failed?

I’m just really shocked that they cancelled it. I thought it was a good show, and I would have liked to see what happened between Ella and Jonah. I was wondering why they were putting out so many new shows, now I guess I know. Ah, well, not much we can do…but this was a good show with a good cast. I hope the cast all find parts in other shows because they were good.
OMG i cannot believe they cancelled Melrose Place! I have been a one tree hill fan since the first episode and when lucas and peyton left the show it just wasnt the same. Melrose place brought back the drama and excitement that the new seasons of one tree hill didnt have enough of! I cant believe they wouldnt have a 2nd season. Now ill never know what happened!!! Im terrible dissapointed by this!

What is the CW doing they keep taking good shows off the air. They have to give people time to warm up to the show. Melrose Place was a great show. Next they’ll be canceling life unexpected. I still cant believe they canceled The GAME BET will get mad hits off that show if they have good writers everyone loved the Game and people are still watching the old episodes. I am so disappointed that this show was canceled. Really it was the only show i watched on CW.. i think that canceling it was a huge mistake!!
Unbelievable!!!!!! I am so upset over this!! I am also quite surprised–every one of my friends watched and LOVED this show!!! It’s way better than several other series for the same demographic. Annoying!
Pissed off that Melrose Place was cancelled!! Seriously, I started seeing the cast from Melrose playing in other shows…. totally bummed!
Confused this was a great show. The problem was the consistancy of airing the show. Would just get interested then the show would go off air for a month or so then back on again… Melrose could have had a chance with better planning…
I think if Heather Lockgear signed up in the beginning . and if they brought back some of the original characters . It would have been a hit and they should have not killed off synedy .

I am completely surprised by this. I thought the new MP was really good, especially in the later episodes. It’s definitely better than 90210. I just don’t quite get it. I guess that explains why Katie Cassidy has joined the cast of Gossip Girl.

I agree…every time a good show comes on they take them off the air!! I loved this show!! They need to bring it back!
