At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

At least put on one more show to make an ending to what happened on the last show. There were three of us that really like it in the same house. We really miss the show. 🙁
I am so mad that Mercy got cancelled! It was my all time favorite show=(
bring back mercy you cant leave it hanging
This was so stupid! i want to become a nurse and i absolutely loved this show because I had something to watch that also includes my career…..stupid nbc!
I have been wondering when “Mercy” was coming back on. I am pretty bummed that it has been canceled. I really liked Veronica and looked forward to seeing her relationship with Chris.
I loved that show. It was really emotional and believable. Good story lines. I think that some the the hospital shows have trashy story lines, Mercy was not trashy. Very unhappy it did not return.
mercy was me and my mos favorite show and we have been wating for it to come back on. now im gonna go cry and were both really mad at the tv station because its better than all the other shows.
What a crock….Everytime I get interested in a show from NBC they cancel it and put another reality show on….You can’t get anymore reality than Mercy!!!NBC sucks
I do not understand whyMercy is cancel it is a great show. The drama was awesome. I think NBC did not give it a chance to gain ratings. I think they should have let season 2 air and then decide on cancelling it. I am very upset that Mercy got cancel. I am starting to think that I need to quit watching NBC. I have been watching for thirty years but shows like mintue to win it and etc. is not great drama. I have found other channels are becoming more interesting. I wander if any other Network will be… Read more »
Mercy was a fun show to watch–I looked forward to each episode.
I think its crap that it got CX I’m a nurse and loved the show….and now we will never know what happened. They should at least have 1 final show to give an ending. All the nurses at my hospital loved the idea and could relate to it since it was based on nursing.
I think it’s crap they canceled this tv series. The show had good drama and real life events. I don’t think they should have replaced it with minute to win it. I think they need to listen to what the viewers want!!! We pay to watch what we want and that’s what we should get!
Bring back mercy and get rid of minute to win it!
I was curious about some of my TNT drame shows and I just learned about Mercy. I am highly disappointed with the cancellation. I thought it was a creative show that did talk about the differences in the medical field. It will be missed along with some other good dramas like Dark Blue.
I am very disappointed that the show did not return. What about all of us writing in on this website–why doesn’t our opinion count? Do we really need Minute to Win It instead of a good drama like Mercy??
