At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

Holy cow, this is horrible news! I just came online to google “Mercy” because I wasnt even sure that the last episode I saw was the season finale and instead came across this news that the show has been CANCELLED???? WTF??????? LOVE this show! This is one of the only shows on TV worth watching, how can you CANCEL it?? I am FUMING!
I loved watching this show. It was very creative, and I loved the interaction between the 3 lead characters. Please reconsider your decisions regarding Mercy and Trauma.
I agree with all comments above, Mercy is a GOOD show and on at a time that we are not falling asleep – NBC please rethink this decision.
would liked to have seen how veronica finally conquered her fears, just who she will end up with in the end,how all of the people depicted on the show end up. WHAT A DISAPOINTMENT- HOW MANY SHOWS DOES THIS MAKE TO BE CANCELED ???????????? JUST WHEN U GET US ROPED IN & ENJOYING THE STORY LINE U UP & CANCEL
Is beyond disappointed that they cancelled Mercy!!!! It was a really great show! They need to bring it back or let someone else bring it back. It the second year in a row that NBC has been disappointing in their choices…..
I loved Mercy and Trauma. I’m very disappointed to hear they were both cancelled.
PUT IT BACK ON!!!!!!! Mercy is a great show. I truly looked forward to every episode. When I heard this news today on the radio I was totally shocked. I know numerous people who share my opinion. Please rethink this cancelation.
I LOVED Mercy and I cannot believe that it is being cancelled!!! I have no idea how ratings are arrived at, but surely not by the intelligence of the viewership. TV is extremely disappointing to me now. I hate reality shows and I love good, solid dramas such as Mercy, that not only showed the real ugly side of returning from a war, but the humanity of hospital work. I do not like Trauma. I loved Mercy. Like many before me, I am hoping another network picks it up. Now I am left with only one show to watch: Army… Read more »
Why would you cancel such a good show? NBC didn’t even give the show a chance. It was off for weeks to air the Olympics, which in truth should be seen on a sports channel like ESPN. Then it was moved to another night. I never missed one single episode though. Then, after such a stupid decision to cancel the show, you leave us dedicated viewers hanging as to what is going to happen to Chris or Mike. I don’t understand how NBC can cancel such a good show because there is nothing else on NBC worth watching. I will… Read more »
I really liked “Mercy” and was pretty shocked to hear it was canceled. I liked the characters and story lines. I thought everything about the show was great. I hope another station picks it up—hopefully a main network because I don’t get that many cable channels. This was only the first season. It seems like any tv station would give a show more time to pick up viewers.
Once again NBC has dropped a good show! I loved the show! Im tired of really getting into a show then the network says “CANCELLED”!! Who is doing the picking and choosing of tv programming at NBC? Poor move on their part!!!
Really dumb move NBC! Mercy is one of the only good things that had going for them!! You could of at least gave it a 1/2 season like 12 episodes into season 2 and see what happens!!!
I AM DEVASTED AT THE LOSS OF MERCY! NBC TAKE IT BACK!!!!!
Absolutely a stupid decision on NBC’s part! Keep that stupid show “Chuck”, and “the marraige ref” but dump an intrigueing drama like “Mercy”? They are out of their minds. I hope TNT or USA or someone picks the show up and kicks NBC’s butt with it!
Wow, what a disappointment…. How can you leave everyone hanging like this???? What a great show Mercy was…. Extremely disappointing and it make me not want to watch another thing on your network!!!!
