At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

Mercy is one of my favorite shows. They can’t take it away from us.
I cannot believe that the show was cancelled!!! Why is it that mainstream America is so ignorant that they feel that good tv consists of reality shows?? Enough of them already. NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, etc you all need to get on board with the fact that intelligent Americans do NOT want to watch that crap. Stop teasing us with good shows where we get attached to the characters just for you to turn around and cancel them.
This is crap this show is awesome I never missed an episode. Very very sad to see it go in my opinion was the best show on NBC. I won’t be watching anymore.
This highly irritates me to hear that Mercy has been cancelled for season two. Seriously? I loved the show and watched it every week. And now they’re going to cancel season two when they left us like they did on the season finale of season 1? atleast give us another season to see how it turns out. Geesh!
I am so sad that Mercy was cancelled. I really loved veronica. I thought it had exceptional acting and a great story line. Perhaps it was the poor time-slot. I almost didn’t find it. Please re-consider?
I am so upset that this was cancelled! i loved this Show. I have been losted since ER was cancelled and now i finally had a good medical show to watch. I am hoping they will change their minds and put it back on.
I LOVED this show and am also very disappointed that it is not only cancelled, but we didnt get a season finalle. I am surprised to find the ratings were not good; but then one of my biggest frusterations was the inconsistant airing of this show because I was dedicated to tune in each week. It seemed like it aired regularily for a couple weeks to start off then just when you got into it, all of a sudden it skipped 2-3 weeks before it aired again. This happened more than once. I think that is the ONLY reason you… Read more »
I agree. I think the time slot inconsistency was a big problem. It was early primetime, then they skipped a few weeks, then it was the prime time middle hour, then it was off the air for several weeks for a game show to take the slot.. all this did not help with viewership.
It was a very entertaining and engaging show, great characters and situations; I am bummed we don’t get an ending. This is very bad form for NBC. I was also disappointed that ABC cancelled Flash Forward, but at least they gave viewers a finale.
I loved this show and am so peeved that it got canceled. I really enjoyed the story line and couldn’t wait for the next show! I hope that NBC reconsiders or someone else picks up the show.
I’m so upset they cancelled MERCY. I love this show and now to have mostly reality shows on air… UGH! Well I won’t be seeing much of NBC anymore…there isn’t anything good on anymore. I am an RN myself and although most of, if not all, of the show wasn’t anything like real life, I LOVED the DRAMA. I know I wasn’t able to catch the episodes on air due to my schedule, but I ALWAYS caught the episodes online. It really is a disappointment to finally find out the show has been cancelled but I hope lifetime or some… Read more »
Lets cancel NBC! They do not even give a new show a chance! I have seen too many shows cancelled on this network. No wonder cable is beating network TV in the ratings.
I agree! The people who “run” NBC are stupid, moron jerks! LOOK AT HOW BADLY THEY SCREWED UP THE TONIGHT SHOW AND HOW BADLY THEY TREATED BOTH CONAN AND LENO. Idiot -morons, all of them. Yes, NBC has ALWAYS cancelled the good shows and leave the crap on! I am a retired RN so I could REALLY relate to Mercy and a lot of it’s story lines. The only distinction is that in “real life” nurses NEVER, EVER have time to sit and talk, gossip or drool over good looking men. Most never have time to take a pee break… Read more »
I am so upset this show was canceled. I want to see what happens next. That was a terrible ending to a show even if there was not going to be a second season. The last show left so many questions unanswered. I think it should come back on. I looked forward to this show every week.
i really liked the show. all the shows i like get canceled (ie moonlight). maybe i just like crappy shows, but i thought mercy was well written & acted. it had good story lines w/ just enough soap opera drama & now ew’ll never know what happens to veronicas ex husband or her ex boyfriend.
I am so mad that they are taking it away! I love that show and I don’t think there is any other show on NBC worth watching now. I might as well get rid of cable all together because I wont watch much else. This sucks! And now I am left wondering what the hell happened! You could have at least closed it up for us!
Me, my best friend, her sister and mother, and my sister ALL loved this show. We are so incredibly ticked off that it’s been canceled, we want to pull a CHUCK. We want to start a viral campaign to get Dunkin’ Donuts to sponsor another season. Furthermore, we want a network like USA, TNT or TBS to pick this show up and RUN with it. Buy it in a used NBC show auction! I know the audience on AIR is small, but we watched it ONLINE! Every single week! It’s not Mercy’s fault that NBC didn’t have a great time-slot… Read more »
I LOVED this show and was and (still am) very upset when I heard that it was cancelled. I was rooting for Veronica and Dr. Sands to get mentally healthy and find their way back to each other. Also loved the character of Chloe and would like to have seen her relationships develop further on the show. The hospital action in between was exciting and intrigueing as well. I DVRed the show every week and never missed an episode. I only wish NBC would give this show another chance, after all previous hits of theirs in the past( NBC) such as… Read more »
