At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

GRRRRRRRRRR..frustrated that Mercy will not be back ! Dont think it was given a fair chance. Loved that show…needs to come back ! waited all summer to find what happened to the GIRLS!
I agree FIX IT!
I am so upset they cancelled this show! I was so excited to see what happens next!!! Maybe if enough of us complain to NBC we may get another season or even a few episodes to at least end it the right way!
I canNOT believe that NBC had the short-sightedness to cancel both of these shows! I absolutely LOVED Mercy and taped it every week, religiously, as I work nights. I am beyond seriously disappointed at this incredibly bad judgment call. I have been looking forward to the season premiere all summer — and what do we have to watch now…hmm….OUTSOURCED? Are you friggin kidding me??????? In this economy where everyone is losing what little jobs we have left to India – NBC has the audacity to treat us like morons by throwing a show of this nature in our face. Do… Read more »
Very disappointed that NBC cancelled this show. My wife and I enjoyed it. I hope USA or another cable network picks it up
I’m so frustrated right now after reading that both my favorite shows are canceled, Mercy and Trama. They both were awesome shows with wonderful story lines. I don’t know what ABC is going to do, because they don’t have any shows really going for them, especially now that ER is gone too. Good luck!
I am SOOOOOO Disappointed about Mercy being canceled! It was an AWESOME show!
NBC SUCKS! They come up with these great shows and then cancel them a year later! Ridiculous! I waste my time investing in all these shows and all they do is replace them with a bunch of reality TV crap! Shame on them!!!!
I need some more Mercy. We all make mistakers. Fix It!!!
i can’t BELIEVE they cancelled mercy!!! that show was one of the best on TV… BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 🙁
I really enjoyed watching this show. And I wondered what had happened. Here I was checking to see when the new season was starting! Come to find out it has been canceled! That sucks! I was looking forward to seeing what happened!
i loved watching mercy maybe if they put it on a little later than 8pm cause it was just to early , it would have done better….i was looking forward to seeing what happened with the men in her life…..i should just cancel cable there are no shows werth watching anymore…DISAPPOINTED 🙁
I loved that show. 🙁
Im REALLY dissapointed that theyve cancelled Mercy and Trauma!! they were 2 of the BEST shows ive been interested in in a long time!! its RIDICULOUS! they should have taken some of that other “crap” off instead
I can’t believe they cancelled 2 of the best shows on TV, Mercy & Trauma!!!
I am very disappointed Mercy was cancelled. It
Was a quality show depicting situations that people
Could relate to. I rarely watch TV anymore due
To low quality selection. This held my interest and had
A certain honesty. I wonder how these decisions
Are made??? Seems this decision was not a good
One for the viewing public. Maybe it didn’t
Contain enough sex, violence or foul language!
Seems the public likes that more than A good story.
