The latest medical drama on CBS is going the way of Three Rivers and NBC’s Mercy and Trauma. Miami Medical has been cancelled after one season on the air. However, there is some good news.
Miami Medical follows the exciting lives of a group of talented surgeons who work at one of the best trauma centers in the country. The Friday night drama features Lana Parrilla , Jeremy Northam, Omar Gooding, Mike Vogel, and Elisabeth Harnois.
The CBS medical series got off to a poor start on April 2nd with a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.59 million viewers. In week two, the numbers dropped to a 1.4 rating in the demo and 7.1 million viewers. Viewership has continued to tumble and thus far, the season has averaged a disappointing 1.3 rating in the demo and 6.7 million viewers.
To put these figures in perspective, Numb3rs’ season had better numbers — an average of a 1.8 rating and 8.27 million — and was ultimately cancelled.

And now, like so many of the other medical dramas from this season, Miami Medical has been cancelled. There won’t be a second season.
On the positive side, the show was scheduled to finish its run tonight, leaving five of its 13 episodes unaired. But now, CBS has added some additional airdates.
Next Friday’s will be a repeat of the pilot episode. Then, original episodes will return on June 4th, paired with new installments of Flashpoint. The last episode of Miami Medical is expected to air on July 2nd.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Miami Medical’s been cancelled or should it have been pulled awhile ago?

I’m really disappointed- it seems like most of my favorite shows are being canceled! I really looked forward to Miami Medical’s grownup characters, who’s characters were just coming into themselves, is storylines that were actually believable. Maybe someone else will pick it up?
I’ve watched all medical shows since Dr. Kildare. I havn’t found one to replace E.R. Until Miami Medical. I didn’t even know about it till the fourth episode. I caught up on line and immediately loved it. I can live without Mercy and Trauma. I thought Three Rivers was the best of the original three. Sorry to see that one go. Miami Medical needs a second chance. It was on for too short a time, and I guess a bad time slot. I DVR everything, so i doesn’t matter to me when it’s on. I think that’s the problem. Too… Read more »
miami medical is the only show to watch on friday night, my family & co-worker are very disappointed. maybe changing the time to 9:00 p.m. “major lost”
I am still puzzled as to why CBS would cancel Miami Medical and I may never understand it. I would have to say that this is the best medical show I have watched and one of the best television shows I have ever watched. The characters were very interesting and the show overall was thrilling and captivated me for the entire 60 minutes. After a long week of work, Miami Medical was exactly what I needed to jumpstart my weekend. I would hope that CBS would quickly realize that it made a huge mistake by canceling Miami Medical. This show… Read more »
My wife and I loved this show. We are very disappointed that it has been cancelled. I agree that it would have gotten more attention if it had been on Mon – Thurs rather than Friday.
It’s too bad that CBS is canceling Miami Medical. The cast seems to have good chemistry and strong characters. Maybe one of the reasons that there has been low numbers is because they put the show on Friday nights. I’d bet if this was on any other night, it would have more viewers. We loved this medical drama. Sad that will not be able to even get a chance.
I am SHOCKED that you cancelled this series!! Finally! You had a winner for Friday night viewing!! You cater to the young people and everyone seems to forget that people 36 yrs. old to 71 years old (our group of 28 LOVED this show) and are not going out and bar-hopping, dating, partying!! We stayed home to watch a good show and relax with some adult show that was interesting and fast-paced. God Forbid that a station has to cater to people who watches stupid sit-coms and junk–Friday Night is a great night for TV and you had the’ up’–then… Read more »
we loved it too, out of all the medical shows, EVER………this was our favorite
I am so upset that Miami Medical is being canceled. It wasn’t given a chance! It has wonderful characters and great, interesting storylines. What can be done to save it??? CBS needs to wake up and reconsider this show. Try putting it in another time slot or something. This show needs to be saved!!!!
It’s unfortunate that Miami Medical was placed in a Friday evening slot. Jeremy Northam is one of the most talented actors I have enjoyed over the years. He was superb in “The Tudors.” The hospital that Miami Medical was modeled after~Jackson Memorial, is one of the top 3-4 trauma centers in the US. I hope CBS reconsiders Miami Medical for another day of the week.
Finally, a show that has interesting characters, no gratuitous violence, no laugh track and technically good also. As others are saying, maybe it would do better in a different time slot, but think it’s nice that there is finally something on for those of us who are home most Friday nights. Give it a chance, guys!
We really liked Miami Medical and watched every episode. PLEASE bring it back!!!
Too bad — CBS is so porely diversified television portfolio wise that it’s shows must have huge fan bases in order to make money. It was getting to be a good show but the broadcast networks have yet to figure out how to make money given the changes in the industry. So best news would be if ABC or NBC bought it as they have more options to showcase it. Perhaps ABC’s ESPN Sports might put it on!
Wow, This is bad news!
I Love Miami Medical, that said its worse news for poor Jerry Bruckheimer, thats 2 shows he’s had pulled this season (Miami Medical and Cold Case), I am glad to see NUMB3RS cancelled though, there are only so many crimes you can solve with MATH5, and i think 118 episodes was enough.
I hope we get miamiMEDICAL and COLD CASE on DVD, i’d buy them!
I am a true Grey’s Anatomy fan, but Miami Medical stole my attention. This is the first medical show of its calibur. They talk about medicine and explain everything. I have actually used it as a reference when I am teaching Medical Assistants. Miami Medical has something that Grey’s could never have….true medicine with a lil less drama.
