Earlier this year, ABC introduced a thriller series called The River. It wasn’t a ratings success and will surely be cancelled later this month. Now, the network is trying an action show called Missing. Will this one fare any differently?
Missing follows Becca Winstone (Ashley Judd), a former CIA operative who’s made a new life for her herself as a single mother and a florist. She agrees to let her son Michael (Nick Eversman) study abroad but, a few weeks into his trip, he disappears and she suspects foul play. Becca arrives in Rome and begins piecing together the clues and it isn’t long before the kidnappers realize they’ve picked a fight with the wrong woman. The cast also includes Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, Adriano Giannini, and Sean Bean.
The series debuted on March 15th and attracted a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.6 million total viewers. That wasn’t a bad performance considering that Missing was airing opposite American Idol and the hyped return on NBC’s Community. CBS was airing a low-rated NCAA Basketball game instead of their usual sitcoms.
In week two, Missing dropped a whopping 24% in the demo and dropped to fourth place in the timeslot (beaten by Idol, Community, and more basketball) with a 1.6 rating and 8.81 million. In week three, the demo dropped another 6% and the show remained in fourth place.
Over the course of this season, Missing’s ratings have slowly dwindled further downward. In fact, the show’s demo numbers have never risen.

Last night’s installment of Missing dropped another 14%, to a new series low, with a 1.2 in the demo and 6.32 million total viewers. It’s demo rating was tied for fourth place in the timeslot — with The CW’s Vampire Diaries.
When a series on a major network ties (or is beaten) by something airing on The CW, you know there’s a major problem.
Missing is currently ranked 21st out of 22 scripted ABC shows this season. It currently has a “D” grade on our ABC Ratings Report Card and is only outperforming Charlie’s Angels average — that was the remake that occupied the same timeslot and was cancelled last November.
Though ABC hasn’t said as much, there’s no chance that Missing will be renewed for a second season. The ratings are just too low — and they keep going lower.
On the positive side, there are only two episodes left in the season so it seems very likely that the network will let them both air before cancelling the show.
But, what do you think? Are you enjoying Missing? Is it worth renewing or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?

I think Missing is a good show. Keeps you involved, time goes swiftly while watching it! A positive look when it keeps you watching and not bored!
Renew it would be good. The only problem I had with it was there were so many flashbacks…..
I am so disappointed that missing won’t be back, they need to reconsider.. I love this show and so does some if my family and friends…. Please put it back on……
I Believe That Missing Should Be Renewed Because Of The Tension Growing Of A Mother Trying To Find Her Son Michael I Also Think That The Love Between The Two-Of Them Is Gradually Speeding Up. And I Believe That Missing Was One Of The Best Shows I Have Ever Seen And For Crying Out Loud Im Fourteen I Should Be Watching Cartoons Not A Show About A Missing Son And A Retired CIA Agent That Is How Much Excitement And Charisma This Show Has.
I am soooooooooo disappointed to hear of the cancellation. I only watch two ABC shows…Missing and Revenge. If Missing is not re-newed, ABC just lost a viewer as I will boycott Revenge. I was always on the edge of my seat while watching Missing …I had to leave the room sometimes because I would get so nervious about what was going to happen next…ha ha. The cast was awesome and now we will never know what happened to Becca.
ABC…not everyone is under 30 and is into reality TV. Bye Bye ABC.
please!!keep missing on t.v.ashley judd u are amazing on the show ….
Great show
PLEASE put back on. It was probably the most riviting show aired this Spring. We were at the edge of our seats every single show!!!!!! How are we supposed to figure what happens to Becca. I raved about the show and got many more people to watch. Most people never even heard of it. It was never advertised properly! Please bring back!!!!!!!
Please put missing back on. Luv that show. Great cliff hanger
Please put Missing back on ABC this is a great show and my family and I look forward to Thursday night when this comes on.

Best TV SHOW I have seen in years i am over shows like idol and dancing with the stars.
I also wait till 8:00 on Thuresday to watch Missing. I even record it a week in advance that’s how much a liked it. Atleast tell us who kidnapped Becca was it the Indian guy or Violet I want to know!!!
bring back series 2 of missing it is one of the best series along with revenge.
I am disappointed the series has been cancelled. It was in a difficult time slot for the majority of watchers. Please reconsider. I am so tired of the everyday shows that we have now. This show is a cut above the rest.
I think it’s outrageous that the ABC has cancelled missing….
Why put one season to air and not follow up with the rest of the seasons?
It is one of the best shows I have seen in a long time and could not wait to watch each episode! Yet ABCseems to love cutting their best shows while keeping the dregs….
