Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

Finally ABC had a great action packed, edge of your seat show and it was cancelled. This show needs a second season and second chance and don’t make it during the playoffs. I loved the characters, the nail biting plots and of course Ashely rocked. Please, another season. Sabrina
Who is making these bad decisions? Missing was like watching a movie condensed into 1 hours – very entertaining. With the reality shows being renewed who is @ ABC making the horrendous decision to cancel such a promising show?
I can’t believe you have canceled Missing. Its is a great show and myself and my family watch everyweek. I know a lot of people that loved it too. So sorry its gone.
I too am sick of reality shows. I love drama and Missing was a great drama with great actors. I am 56 years old and sick of networks catering to the teeny boppers and 20 something’s. There is absolutely nothing to watch on regular tv anymore that is interesting to my age group. Bring back Missing!!
Missing was the only show on ABC that I took the time to watch. I actually looked forward to it each week. ABC has nothing I’m interested in watching and I agree with Beachbabe absolutely sick of reality telelvision. I mean really ABC you keep “The Bachelor/Bachelorette” series over Missing? Talk about giving a stupid show chance after chance also “once Upona a Time”. Maybe Missing didn’t have the ratings you wanted because you didn’t promote it properly.
I just watched the series finale and am very disappointed that the show will not
be back, even the ending of the show appeared that it was going to be continuing.
We need more dramas with good acting, and not another reality show. Please pay
attention to what the viewers are saying.
MISSING – the only show on TV that has the capability of pulling you out of your world and into theirs and enjoying every second of it. The only show with beginning/end action & suspense that causes you to hold your breathe at times. Truly amazing show! What do we have to watch in place of it, more singing, reality shows and now a show about walking dogs! Give me a break. Missing is extraordinary, captivating, thrilling. Cut back on locations, create the sets but don’t cut out the best show on TV and if it didn’t make the ratings,… Read more »
Missing is a good show. Body of Proof, The Gates, Dancing with the Stars all great to watch.I don’ care for the reality shows either.
I think you are crazy. This is such a great show and now you’re taking it off the air. That is a load of you know what. BRING IT BACK
I am stunned that this show has been cancelled! Finally a relief from the insipid
and unimaginative “sit coms” and reality shows that flood the TV every night. Why
can’t the networks see that the public needs more intelligent fare than they are presenting
instead of inundating us with banal entertainment at the high school level? Please
reconsider and schedule season 2 in a different time slot….perhaps later, when the folks that don’t want to be challenged are asleep!
Missing was the best new show I’ve seen in forever. The networks must be nuts for cancelling it. What’s new though!
This is just RIDICULOUS. ABC cancels a perfectly good show. Great actors, good plot and great endings that make us want to return next week to watch. Why not make Emily from The Bachelorette go Missing (TRASH TV!!) and give OUR show a new time slot and another season. They put MISSING up against American Idol and Big Bang Theory. No wonder you can’t get viewers. Contact ABC, let’s get this show back on the air.

How can you cancel the show now when the show that aired May 17th ended with Becca (Ashley Judd) in her car, the car bumps into another car, and then show her not in the car? The show reminded me of Fox’s Show – 24. It was full of action, suspense and kept you watching. Missing should be given a second season, and then if ratings are low, cancel. I do not understand, they have other shows that I am sure the network ratings were low but were not canceled. What about putting it on another night so that it… Read more »
I am sick and tired of all the reality shows on every channel. Do these networks think
that intelligent people want to watch stupid people doing stupid things? Obviously, because there is nothing to watch most nights that keep our interest. I thought
MISSING was a great show, but they needed to at least give the public a REAL
closure, like leave it with the ending of them finding each other! Not the last 30 seconds,
where you don’t know what happens to Becca. Crazy ABC
I am appauled at the cancelation of Missing. Shame on ABC!!!!!! Maybe I should say shame on the viewers, If they would stop watching the low grade reality shows that seem to be networks favorites maybe we could have more quality shows like missing.

people haven’t stopped watching the show. 1. American Idol clogs the ratings 2. They only gave missing 10 episodes as a mid season pick up 3. Dramatic shows that leave you on the edge of your seat are better watched more via DVR recordings that prime time. People are either watching their shows on DVR or the Web to bypass the idiotic commercials. Example: Why would Subway air an advertisement for subs at 8:30pm when they usually close within an hour? 4. Missing is a show that’s geared toward adults. 8-9pm is when most families are putting the young ones… Read more »
