TNT recently wrapped the first season of Monday Mornings, their latest medical drama. Should it return for a second season or be cancelled instead?
Monday Mornings follows the lives of the talented yet flawed doctors at the Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Oregon. The title refers to the tough peer review meetings that are run by the hospital’s sarcastic Chief of Staff. The cast includes Ving Rhames, Jamie Bamber, Jennifer Finnigan, Bill Irwin, Keong Sim, Sarayu Rao, Emily Swallow, and Alfred Molina.
The show started off the season with just 1.36 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That was less than half of what the Dallas premiere lead-in drew with 2.98 million and a 0.8 demo rating.
The numbers for Monday Mornings didn’t get much better as the weeks wore on. The season ended up averaging just 1.39 million viewers and a 0.3 in the demo.
Given these numbers, it seems highly unlikely that Monday Mornings will be back for a second season.
But what do you think? Would you like to see the show return for a second season or do you think it should be cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t catch on with a bigger audience? Was the title a problem? What would you have called it?
Potentially a GREAT show . . . those who never had staff privileges at a teaching hospital may not relate, however. Why such a limited focus? At least, make it “Grand Rounds.” I do hope it is renewed . . . are Kardashians and pawnbrokers and pregnant teenaged girls really more entertaining than Dr. Hooten and Dr. Park? “Don’t do, dead.”
Please bring this Monday Mornings back! My husband and I look forward to this show its one of our favorites. I agree that it needs to be cross promoted, I found out about this show by someone sharing info about the program.
I did have a problem with the title of Monday Mornings. Until you watch it, you may associate the title with the phrase “Monday Morning Quarterback” and not even realize what the subject matter is. How about a more straightforward title such as “Neurosurgeon” or “Chelsea General” (and redo the logo, it looks too much like the logo of Cover Girl cosmetics).
This is without a doubt the best medical drama ever. In my opinion it blows Grays out of the water. I watched it right from the first episode and was never disappointed. Maybe the reason for lousy ratings is lousy promotion. If this fine show were promoted like most of the other claptrap on TV, there would have been millions of viewers waiting for the next season. Please, you CAN’T compare this to Dallas, because, like me, millions of fans believed that to be the best soap ever and could not believe it was rebooted with much of the original… Read more »
my entire family loves this show, it was one of the best TV programs placed in the tnt network. Please put this show back on the air. we have many doctors, but knowing there’s one that corrects mistakes but talking it out with the doctor in front of their peers made being a doctor a lot harder knowing you have to control everything around you ( captain of the ship doctrine) brings a new light to my colleges and myself. thank you
I dont understand the audiences , they would rather watch mindless ,explicitly sexual shows like two and half men ,2 broke girls or reality shows. and many more like them. Instead of good show, like Monday Mornings , Harry’s law or any of the great shows , that had great stories and writers. What is wrong with people…..
I really liked this show, It was well acted. I could not believe the season was over. When so many bad shows continue season after season, why can’t we have good shows continue? Please bring it back. Thanks
love this show, you should absolutely renew it. I used to watch, when I was younger with my father. I know watch it with my daughter, we are hooked on it. My daughter says, its better than the day soaps because it is all fast paced. Please renew it.
Love this show! The characters were excellent and I hope it is renewed
I don’t watch a lot of television but the commercials really got me interested. I looked forward to Monday and being able to watch it. I would like to see it return for another season.
Great show; one of the best dramas on TV. Well acted and well written. One of the few ‘must watch’ shows on my list every week.
My finance’ and I are addicted. We looked forward to watching every week! I love this show! Please bring it back for another season!!!!!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE…Monday Mornings show….intelligent…so few interesting programs on tv
Frankly, there aren’t many thought-provoking television programs these days…Monday Mornings is one! It’s well produced, the actors are excellent and the storylines each week are amazing. There are too many “junk and frivolous” shows on TV…cancelling Monday Mornings would be a travesty. *sigh* I so look forward to it and if it were to be cancelled would further solidify my belief that the networks don’t understand or really care about the great programs they bring to TV…they seem to want more they half-hour junk programs, cheap to produce or the stereotypical “dramas” they keep running over and over again *sigh*… Read more »
David Kelly has had a pretty good track record with his shows. This one has the quirky characters and real drama. I looked forward to each show and was disappointed the season had finished so quickly. Please bring it back for another season!
