TNT recently wrapped the first season of Monday Mornings, their latest medical drama. Should it return for a second season or be cancelled instead?
Monday Mornings follows the lives of the talented yet flawed doctors at the Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Oregon. The title refers to the tough peer review meetings that are run by the hospital’s sarcastic Chief of Staff. The cast includes Ving Rhames, Jamie Bamber, Jennifer Finnigan, Bill Irwin, Keong Sim, Sarayu Rao, Emily Swallow, and Alfred Molina.
The show started off the season with just 1.36 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That was less than half of what the Dallas premiere lead-in drew with 2.98 million and a 0.8 demo rating.
The numbers for Monday Mornings didn’t get much better as the weeks wore on. The season ended up averaging just 1.39 million viewers and a 0.3 in the demo.
Given these numbers, it seems highly unlikely that Monday Mornings will be back for a second season.
But what do you think? Would you like to see the show return for a second season or do you think it should be cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t catch on with a bigger audience? Was the title a problem? What would you have called it?
Yes!!! Renew it please!!!
I love Monday Mornings and will be very disappointed if it isn’t on next season. I believe it is very well written, interesting and the actors are believable. I am tired of the comedies and off color sexual content of most of the shows on the major networks.
I don’t think there was enough publicity about it before it started. I heard Sanjay Gupta promote it but some of the actors should have been on the talk shows to promote it.
Fabulous show!! It was filled with depth, intelligence and heart, without excessive sex and violence. I couldn’t get enough of it. It touched on pertinent issues, character development, drama, and comic relief . The actors were great. What a shame if this heart-warming,fast-paced, intelligent show is cancelled. If it does not return, my suspicion would be that it was not promoted properly and sadly, not enough people knew of its amazing potential. Why not cancel a couple of mind-numbing reality shows instead!?!!!!
An incredibly well written, well cast and well acted program. It should be renewed. Why wasn’t it advertised?
Keep the show!!! It is excellent and Alfred Molina and Ving Rhames are riveting characters in this drama. I miss ER and I already miss Monday Mornings!!!!
Love love love this show.. I enjoy it and want to see it renewed!!!
Keep the show. Finally a good show and they want to kill it.
great show; bring it back
I love this show. I hate to see it cancelled. The show is thought provoking. I rather like the idea of Monday Morning “Armchair Quarterbacking” to bring to the forefront mistakes and successes of the physicians.
So, the general consensus on here is to renew the show. Now, I have been a fan of many a medical drama, not to mention a fan of both Ving Rhames and Alfred Molina for many years. I didn’t like either of their characters. I have no empathy or sympathy for ANY character on the show, and I TRIED! I watched every episode, all the way up to and through the (unexpected) finale. I’m sorry, but if we get a vote, I say cancel it and let these actors hopefully find a better show.
Amazing show! My husband and I love it! I hope it gets a second season
I wish I had known about the series from inception. It is definitely something I would watch/record. Why can’t they leave the good shows alone and remove some of the garbage? I guess it is all about the money, as usual. Oh well, welcome to Reality, since those obviously generate a lot more income. God forbid there should be something educational yet entertaining on television. Honey Boo-Boo isn’t teaching anybody anything but how to be ridiculous.
Yes! Please bring Monday Mornings back for a second season. Who even knew about it? I heard about it word of mouth and watched the last five episodes. I raved to my friends and they started watching it too.
I love the characters, the drauma, and the entire idea of showing a “peer review” on Monday mornings.
Please give this show a chance.
I think Monday Mornings is one of the best shows on TV & attracts an intellectual audience. I hate to see it go.
Great medical show! The writing is thought provoking and the actors are excellent. Keep the show!
